Yes Greenrover I was one of those absent fans, Had the Ticket and the coach and then finished up at Darenth Hos for an emergency op. Spent all that time watching the Fleet during the winter months just to be laid low at the crucial time, Mind you I was getting plenty of text messages as the game progressed from some of my mates (halfway liners. I do hope there is a video of the match. Looking forward to next season now, starting with the friendlies. drinkies

Congratulations Fleet on a well-deserved victory. Your team and your fans did you proud yesterday and wre a great advert for the non-league game. Bit of a nervy first 15 mins or so, then you settled nicely and although there were plenty of chamces at both ends, the Fleet were well worth the win - could have had one or two more with a bit of luck (and better pen taking...!)

From an Enfield Town fan (that was at Wembley yesterday, having Fleet sympathies due to Fleet family in the area).

What a great day, fantastic atmosphere, good natured banter with the Torquay fans and something to remember for ever. I've never been to Wembley before (either this one or the old Wembley) and it was spectacular.

I think the comment about the American supporter is so apt - I was taking calls from fans in the USA and Australia who just wanted to hear the noise first-hand! Has there ever been anything quite like this before? I don't think so. Is is going to take us onwards and upwards? Yes, I believe it will.

Well I was looking around fellow Kent club forums just to see what they had to say and most where complimentary. Yes there where a few idiots but there was one that got me a little angry. He said

God Iv'e just watched that game and the football on show lol, makes Gills look like Man u. So so so poor but one positive is that Ebbsfleet striker worth a look (Akin - something) he held the ball up quite well and was always trying to pick out a team mate in a better position instead of being greedy, like Ebbsfleet's goal for example he could of ran and shot but instead played a clever weighted ball to set up a goal

Thoughts ?????

And in another thread he tried to back up what he said when someone criticised what he said by saying

I said it makes Gills look like Man U and I stand by that comment I think Ebbsfleet had like 2 shots on target and the team they were playing weren't that much better either. Loads of long balls in fact I would go so far to say that all of their forward play was from long balls. and the standard of, finishing, passing, movement was so so poor.

Now that last comment really wound me up. But then I just thought to myself the way they are going and the way Ebbsfleet are we will soon enough be in the same league or above them by a league.

I shared a train carriage home with three Gills supporters last night, none of whom agreed with any of those comments; all were genuinely pleased for us, all reckon with the right breaks we could have a bright future and all enjoyed the football they saw...sour grapes from one sad and jealous Gills supporter

Also makes a pleasant change not to get the "They werent very good, but we were poor" comments from the opposition fans - the majority of postings on the Torquay board concentrate on their own shortcomings and accept that we deserved to win the game.

The Trophy has certainly shown what we're capable of - beating 3 of the top 5 in winning the competition is no mean feat. We simply have to perform to that level more consistently against the lower teams to achieve league success.

Indeed, against the top 5 in all competitions our results this season were :-

Aldershot W1 D 2 L1

Cambridge W1 D1

Torquay W2 L1

Exeter W1 D1 L1

Burton W2 D2

Overall W7 D6 L3

Weve got the team, we just need a better squad.

Exactly what I was thinking, Les. The publicity surrounding the Trophy might bring in some more members to get us through the first year's transition. Either way, it was a fantastic weekend.

What's needed is a double promotion push whilst the victory's still fresh in everyone's mind - firstly to get bums on seats at the ground for the coming season and secondly to get more people signed into the MYFC concept, but it needs to be instigated pretty sharp; people have short memories.

Talked to so many people on Saturday, and its the simple things that have to be communicated to the potential fans again and again.

People dont know a child can watch a season for
