Relegation or Reprieval

Recommended Posts

Slough Town supporters which would you like?

My feelings is your best off long term being relegated after all Chalfont St. Peter finished 2nd and has the ground to achieve promotion so surely this is more correct the same applies for the other 3 clubs who are in the position of being reprieved as there were 4 teams who achieved ground grading and finished 2nd so deserve to be promoted!!

Also I feel Slough should apply for the Spartan South Midland League rather than the Hellenic League as this I feel is the weaker of the 2 and will help Slough gain promotion while re-building for the future!!?

Personally, I've come round to the view that relegation wouldn't be so bad provided we have a good season next year. We finished second bottom so deserve to go down and I don't really like the idea of benefiting from other teams troubles. I don't think it matters what league we go down into so long as we challendge for promotion next year. That could see gates increase as we get good results and could help the club rebuild itself. This is a curiously optimistic post for me.

Incidentally I was pleased to see AFC beat Staines to get in the Conference South. Its been a struggle getting out of that division and I think it has improved them as a club having to work for it.

Yes ive thought before that relegation isnt the end of the world

it did oxford city the power of good as they came back stronger.

we need to have a successful season not just a midtable one which if im honest is what i think we will achieve next season if we are reprieved, no disrespect to sweetman but it takes time from going to relegation fodder one season towinning the league the next.

As said above a winning team could raise the crowd and support level, and also entering the vase would be great with a real chance of winning it (although there are some good teams in it)

I was also pleased to see wimbledon go up even more so under terry browns leadership. The ryman is hard to get out of and i think wimbledon could quite easily go up again next season.

I would think the hellenic would be easier to win than the spartan but does involve more travelling.

The Spartan is a tough little leagueand will get tougher with Berkhamsted and Stotfold possibly joing it. The Hellenic may involve a bit more travelling - but its a lot easier to win now, especially with North Leigh & Flackwell Heath probably going up.

The reason I think it sets us back. Yes we could win the division if we arerelegated this year, but there is no guarantee of that.

However, we now have a manager in place who knows this league inside out. If we do get reprieved, there is no way we'll be in the same position next year.

I think that either way things are looking more optimistic under Derek Sweetman and Steve Easterbrook, if we get relegated or stay in this league we will be looking to push high in the league, for the title at step 5 or maybe the playoffs at step 4.

Obviously it would be good to stay at step 4 as we would be more likely to hold on to our better players from the end of last season, like Terry, Meddie, Gray etc

Flackwell are not going up!! Finished mid table. Almondsbury second so if any extra, which there wont be, would be them.

Teams without grounds should all go down .

Bit of a mixed reaction!!

Having reading the replies I must state I still see the Spartan as the easier league as Flackwell Heath got relegated last season and only finished mid-table in the Hellenic where as Beaconsfield who also got relegated won promotion from the Spartan also can the club afford to re-build, ground-share and have extra travelling which the Hellenic will be compared to the Spartan?

Thanks for the good wishes on AFC gaining promotion from the Ryman league and your correct in saying it's a tough league as we never finished in the top 2 but did compete in the play-offs the 3 seasons we were there and at least our manager knows the Conf South div as already shown 8 regulars the door as looking at changing playing style!! I will be happy with a top half finish then push for promotion following season.

All the best to Slough Town whatever league your in as I will always follow your results as come from slough....wonder how many Town's team play in a lower league to a village from that Town ie Burnham!!!

Have to disagree i think the hellenic is easier but for the travelling, Flackwell were running away with the league untill the money dried up and byron whatsit left. they were playing the rest of the season with a very young inexperienced side so they slipped down the table. if anything though id rather the spartan, you get to play teams like chalfont wasps and cockfosters.

Flackwell were doing very well until Byron and Steve left with a young side. They started the season with a number of players aged 21 or under and slipped away following the departure of the management at the time.

On a side note, Steve Hale has left Bracknell.

Kempster's prediction with Slough in SLSW requires 22 teams in NP1N&S. However, Halifax's sorry predicament will cause more changes. Whilst there is a change in mood in the club for the better, it will be harder to get out of step 5 with one team coming up. We can look for a better season next year regardless, although I would rather stay up.
