Iam sorry Barry i can't agree with you , as Gazza has said he has played out of position sometimes, but he has got on with it, and i know you didn't see the east thurrock game but shavey played with hind sight and intellegents and passion its there Barry, anyway when paul made the jump from maldon fc to us it takes time to adapt i think let loose he can be good in the air near goal and have the bottle in midfield, i am glad his with us and lets give him a chance, what you see on the field at times , is not how he is off the field a really nice bloke always willing to talk to you BF

Personally i think Paul Shave is a top bloke and plays his heart out when he is on the pitch.

No player likes playing out side their normal position and he steps up to the call week in week out. Ref's will pick him out regardless of how hard or soft he tackles and more times than not he put's the fear of Christ into most of the opposition players. But in saying that off the pitch he is a gent.

I still stand by my call re Danny being a 100% able player in his right (& only) position but we wont ever get that 100% with a player out of position.

I also agree that PS was put in the team to carry out a mission and it would seem to be mission accomplished.

Oh and can i just say that it isint me that shouts "take him out Shavey" tis the gezzer next to me.

Paul Shave and the players around him were told to do a job which, at the time was to get us up the league from what was at the time, bottom...with a very depleted squad. As you say mission accomplished.

I think the Paul Shave discussion is peripheral to the main topic. We all know he does "exactly what it says on the tin". Some will love him for it, others may not but, if the team management can find room in the squad for him that's OK by me. BUT... the priority is assembling 16 or so players who can consistantly beat any other team in this league, which is why Kerrers departure has suprised many.

I'm looking forward to hearing about our new signings over the summer. The bar has been set pretty high.

May i re-direct away from Mr Shave here. For what it is worth Paul did make a massive impact in that ETU game when we were 2 zip down.

Right, contunuing the theme of "our" lads after the last game had a small chat with the guvners (cor blimey) smile and just inquired about the goalkeeping position. Now, as most folk i stand with know goalkeepers i am biased towards. One minute they are heroes the next not. A striker can miss an open goal and everyone sayd "hard luck" crazy A goalkeeper drops a ball and then "oh dear"...So my point being is we have 2 very competent keepers when it comes to shot stopping but i would like to see them more commanding in their box. If you have commandment then immediately it breeds confidence in the back four. This is not a slight on the lads but purely a point of "encouragement" to take charge.

Seeing as it is now fashionable to add "shoot me down" at the end of a post i will do the same laugh

All things considered, IMO we do want players who specialise in their positions, after all I don't see Ashley Cole or George McCartney being asked to be more versatile.

But the versatility argument doesn't seem to stack up either; Macca has played right back and centre back, Dormer centre and left midfield and centre back, Blewitt centre back and left back, Heffer at centre back and centre midfield and Wayne at right back and right midfield and Matt (he's here, he's there, he's every..........where!) Game has played everywhere! So surely, the versatility already exists, not only in the squad, but in the first eleven as well.

There is also the 'Horses for Courses' and 'Jack of all Trades' argument!

But I have to agree that the back five needed sorting out, it just seems to me that Danny and Darren have 'carried the can'.

Is there any news yet on Heffer and Hodgie?

A new goalkeeper would be my first priority bar none. For me, it's the most important position on the pitch. The two young keepers we have are both decent players but in my view neither is currentlygood enough to be first choice. I would look to keep Ronnie as competition for my main keeper, loan Jack out for a whole season so that he can learn and make his msitakes for someone else and see how he comes back at the end of it.

Stands back and waits for wall of noise......

It appears from recent comments that I may have over-emphasised my thoughts.

I have not commented on PS as an individual, simply that I don't think he's good enough to play in the current Billericay side.

I know he plays in a different position to DK - no comparison was intended except that one stays and one goes, and I was disappointed it was that way round.

I apologise if that upsets anyone, including PS himself, but I merely expressed my own personal opinion about footballing ability and nothing about personalities.

I didn't manage to read Gazza's post before it was edited, but judging by further posts, I'd like to point out that it was meant to be sarcastic.

I am not as regular as the majority on here, mainly due to a wife and 2 small kids, but I do think I have watched enough games this year to be allowed to express my opinion on a player, even though I clearly missed his best game for us.

I take TC's point about not singling people out, particularly when the season is going on, but there's always someone with a positive view to match someone else's negative one.

I have clearly been negative to PS, but he should take heart from the fact that so many are ready to come out with good comments for him. That's the beauty of the game.

My comments on Mr Shave are now concluded and I look forward to retracting all my words soon into the new season!

It has taken me a few days but I have now calmed down. Danny has been the most consistent player all season. He has made that position his and there was no-one who could touch him. He may not be the best going forward but he tried. His defensive qualities were what he was there for and he carried them out extremely well.

I do not understand this decision and I feel that many supporters will feel he has been made a scapegoat.

Like other people have said.. Danny.. eventhough he done ok.. had his worst season for us as a defence.. I also disagree with the face that he has been the most consistent player all season.. If anyone has been the most consistant.. its Macca

We had the same defence as we did last season and it just wasn't as good.. it wasnt solid and we let in too many goals.. So i agree with the managers choice to bring in a few, fresh defenders.

I also agree wth the managers choice, providing they're right! If they are proved to be wrong, then I will disagree with their decision most strongly. That's what fans & managers do, isn't it?

cuddle argue
