Anyone who has entered a dream team competition will know how hard it is to assemble a quality team within budget.

Do you go with a number of superstars and make the rest up with real cheapies, do you go for an average team and spend an equal amount on each player, or do you look for a balance of quality steadiness and value.

Whilst I'd be chuffed with a promotion, I also quite like this bloody league. Sorry.

Rick i had to put my glasses on, nice touch, i agree to a certain extent about this league, but if we did go up, i am sure it would cost the club alot more money, but looking at some of the teams in the next league above us i think we could stand our ground.

Blue Fan, we've held our own against H&R, Fisher, Bromley, AFCW & Chelmo over recent seasons and I'm sure we'd make the grade in the BSS. But is it worth the hastle? Average attendances were less than this league (although AFCW's prescence may change that) & mileage is considerably greater than the RPL.

It's a necessary stepping stone, but not a valuable ambition in its own right, in my opinion.

I think we should aim to spend as little time in the BSS as possible. 'Kin 'ell! I've spent so much time on the Soapbox my Gonads have inflated!

Don't worry Rik, there is a procedure that will deflate them.

I would agree with Rik on some points. The Ryman League is a good standard of football, proved by how difficult it is to get out of the damn thing. In a twilight momemnt of no ambition, I certainly wonder why we should stress ourselves over promotion but then, dawn follows...

If we did get promoted, I believe we'll hold our own. And we'll have all those nice new grounds to visit...altho they maybe a tad further than we're used to, myself and my passengers willl relish the journey with all those "tunes" I will be playing on the car stereo.

Give me a trip to Dorchester over 'Arra bloody Boro/Ashford/Staines/Heybridge any day.

This club needs to be in the Conference South. In order to even start to maximise our potential and be taken seriously by potential sponsors/advertisers and joe public at large, we need to be there. The Conference South is still in its infancy as those clubs that should be there, gradually rise up. In 5/6 seasons time it will be a vastly stronger and more attractive league to be in. Attendance wise we'll more than hold our own, probably top 6/7. IMO, the longer we stay in the Ryman the more stale, as a club, we become.

I agree Ryan. The long term future is in the BSS for the very same reasons you have mentioned.

As for a visit to Dorcester...I know a very good inn that does B & B, a lovely line of real ales and a cracking brekkie...

Quite probably does scrumpy as well but it'll be wasted on our processed apple juice drinkers as it quite probably won't be fizzy enough for the poor loves (girls, the lot of 'em).

I agree with u ryan we need conference football, the ryman is ok but its getting boring going to the same old places.fancy a few big away days. with the players we have and the Quality players that i know the managers r trying to bring in, our dreams may come true.If we dont pick up the injurys like we had last year will be fine.

mmmm...the problem being, you will have to drastically increase the player budget to get out of this league, or stop the better players from leaving?

The added problem is that you have Dover, Dartford and Hornchurch as rivals, all who want to get out of this league as well, and have ambitious plans. AFCW threw money at the league, but took along time to get a settled team.

"Drastically increase our budget"... from what to what LF.

"Stop our better players leaving"... denying the likes of Chris Welpdale an opportunity to play league football is not an option at Billericay, neither is "drastically" increasing our budget, yes we want promotion, but not at any cost.

I'm not sure what your getting at re AFC, I would agree that the two promoted teams spent their way to promotion last season, but prior to that the AFC budget wasn't that big.

BTW, enjoy next season, CCFC deserve it.

not so sure about that TC....from the conversations I have had with DA it wasn't that small either...grin

Not small, in fact comparatively large, but I was comparing it to last seasons promoted teams, AFC published wage and fee figures that were something like, 60k was it, or was it more? up in the last three months of the calendar year compared to the previous year

Really, who gives a FF? No club will admit what they spend on players, unless, of course, they publish in their accounts and then we have the usual detractors going on and not believing it. Every club has a budget and the success of each club is balanced by how well it's spent. There are plenty of clubs that have a smaller budget than some that can and will do well...and vice versa.

All I care about is my club and how we're going to do next season on and off the pitch. If people want to argue about budgets, take it to a "budget" thread (we'll never know the truth and that makes it a pointless discussion). Lets be bloody minded and selfish concentrate on "us" and let the others worry about "us and the others". It's a bit narrow minded yes but mix that in with a bit of focus on what we want to achieve, aggression and purpose to achieve it and the other clubs can go hang 'emselves. I would like the club (first team) to win some silverware next season or at least promotion and IMO, adopting that attitude accross everyone at Billericay is a step in the right direction...

Going back to the original subject, Kerrers out and Shave stays????

What is going on?

You've got one player who puts in 100% every game and, to agree with someone else's comments on this topic, is amongst the best left backs in the league.

Letting him go because he's not attacking enough is a bizarre decision, in my opinion.

Then we have a total and utter liability who gets more yellow and red cards than makes accurate passes, so we keep him on for another year.

A booking after 5 minutes of his debut at Tonbridge gave us a good insight into that clown's ability.

Totally mad.

I sincerely hope they have a very good replacement in line.

I also think the management team should consider what formation they are going to play with 10 men next year, as its bound to happen more than once.

We're told time and time again how difficult it is to get in players of the right ability at the right cost, and then we let someone of Kerrigan's quality go.

I hope that Macca and Dorms are on long contracts or they'll be next out, probably to be replaced by Warren Ryan.

In case you hadn't guessed, I'm not impressed!
