Whyteleafe vs Merstham at Met Police FC (Imber Court)

and the winner was.......the losing quarter finalist

 

Whyteleafe 2-3 Merstham after extra time. Merstham twice behind too.

 

Not a great game but livened up once 'Leafe had taken the lead through Ali Reeve in the second half.

 

At least one Dorking player (& the Manager!) spotted (had to get Dorking in somewhere )

 

Superb organisation by the Surrey FA/Met Police FC with a mile long queue at the one turnstile and no food at all once the one tea bar ran out at 8.05pm!

An absolutely fantastic night. In some ways it was the sweetest of all the three trophies we won this season. Yet again, we made it hard to ourselves by failing to kill off the oppo even though we dominated the chances but in the end the better side one, a truth magnanimously agreed with by several Leafe officials and fans.

 

It's still hard to believe how good a season it has been for us at Merstham.

So you would take last nights cup over winning promotion?

No, I meant the achievement felt sweeter. The league felt like it was in the bag for about 4 months before it actually was secured. A cup game, a one-off where we were the underdogs - always going to be a more magical experience.

 

I certainly wouldn't lose the promotion spot for anything though - and thankfully, I haven't had to choose.

 

Now, promotion or the Vase final, that might have been a tougher shout for some people.

feel free to pick any of the trophies or achievements you've had this year Bomaya. While the rest of us have to just get by with a few wins under our belt or the memory of having to travel all the way to Reading Town for a meaningless draw.

gussy dya think its a tad easier to be congratulatory tastic to your club when all is well and the only problem is to buy another shelf for the trophy cabinet?

when the mighty Krooners got to the 1st round of the FA Cup I would not of swapped that for anything in the world. I would go for the Vase as my choice in a season. Imagine seeing/playing with your side at Wembley

When we beat Thame 3-0 in the FA Cup the season the Final went back to wembley and we kicked it all off on a friday evening game with Sky and BBC 1 there, it created a real sense of occasion but i would of taken promotion over that anyday.
