Ten Years

Matt

Recommended Posts

The Friday just passed (May 2nd) marked 10 years since Slough Town's last Conference match, a 1-0 win at Kidderminster Harriers in front of 1,709.

A lot has happened to the club during that time - some highs, but mostly lows. Let's hope the next ten years are better than the last ten!

Yeah i hope your right matt, when i first watched the rebels in the seventies along with wycombe and enfield, slough were up there,of course there wasnt the conference or the blue square premier(still cant get used to calling it that) then but you did also have the southern league and the northern premier league which was at the same level, rarely did a non league team get into the league apart from wimbledon and later wigan athletic.

Anyway teams decline to rock bottom quickly as in the case of aldershot who went bankrupt in 1992 only to form a new club starting in the equivalent of the combined counties and who have now some 16 years later made into league 2 (fourth division old money)

other teams decline slowly like slough, enfield, wealdstone etc

these are the clubs that because of core support of a couple of hundred are limited because of finances/ground etc.

I think the future is looking better even if we do play at step 5 next season, we seem to have good foundations in place to steadily rise up the leagues but living within our means after all a club even in the spartan league is better than no club at all.
