Pre-season Friendly v Charlton

Recommended Posts

From MyFC...

"We have just received confirmation that Charlton have confirmed their annual pre season friendly match with us.

This will take place at 3pm on Saturday 12 July 2008.

Unlike previous seasons, they have agreed to field a strong first team squad for the match so I think it could result in a good attendance, and a win for us of course ;-)

Make a note in your diaries for that one.

In addition, Manic Scott has been negotiating with Scottish clubs to attempt to arrange a friendly with them. We wish him luck with his negotiations and look forward to the resulting England vScotland clash.

Apologies, having read the Website, I do recall last year's friendly against Charlton Youth....did we win 5-1 ?

I wouldn't say it was an annual fixture though, although recall seeing a game a few season ago when Dean Kielly was in goal for CAFC...

Great! (Not). Charlton, again. Good attendance. Definitely not. Pre-season prediction 452.

This is where the MyFC inexperience shows. They say we have been told we'll get the first team, we get told that every year. Got attendance, get told that every year.

Just wait until the FA Cup comes round and we get draw away to some lower league hole, MyFC be highly confident that we get through, it will be highly amusing to see their faces as we go out 1-0 in front of a crowd of 300. Not too fussed though, we have our eyes set on something bigger.

I never went to the Charlton friendly last season because I was in Ireland but I remember I could have gone to the Millwall game but as the club hadn't released details of season tickets until this game had been played I wasn't able to take advantage of the free entry offer so didn't go. It's not so much the fact that I had to pay, I quite happily would have done it was the fact that we held out forcing people to pay.

Things will be different this year as it seems Pardew has finally given up on his policy of having half the team being disinterested loanees from the PL. He's been playing a lot of kids in the last couple of games (including a 16 year old as the main midfielder playmaker!) and in interviews he's been saying that he'll be fielding a lot of youth/reserve teamers in the first team next season. So yes, you will be playing what looks like our youth/reserve team as usual, but I'm afraid that's the level our first team has now sunk to...
