Guildford possible groundshare with Woking FC

Recommended Posts

Fair play to GC although those pics make the ground look a lot nicer than it is. That one big stand is great but the rest doesn't really live up to it.

Then again I suppose it's not too far for the fans to go and anything's better than playing in a leisure centre.

dont blame me for this then rtfc!

in the mid seventies when I was about your age Guildford City sold their ground and had nowhere to go.

They played at Meadowbank, Dorking as Guildford City in the Southern league, which was then at the level the conference is now. Players like Geoff Chapple and Gary Peters.

Then the clubs "merged" and became Guildford and Dorking united for a couple of seasons.

didnt work out and the club/clubs folded mid season.

Guildford eventually started again but by then Woking had got the next generation of fans and players.

Dorking carried on as Dorking Town, Dorking FC,

Im surprised Guildford are possibly looking at sharing with Woking.

I wonder if its coincidence this has come out since Dorking won the court case?

Is Ash within Guildford Borough?

and if the spectrum is being vacated sometime soon theres a coco prem level ground available for rent.

I went to Woking to see England Girls Under 18's play Switzerland.

I was quite impressed with the ground, and VERY impressed with the helpful polite groundstaff.

Would the running track have anything to do with Guildford wishing to withdraw from the Spectrum ?

If this is true we have just witnessed the start or the demise of Guildford City F.C.

The only way they can afford this is the chairmans own cash so that will last intil he gets pissed off.

He is trading the support of the Sweeney for those Woking supporters who will watch because Woking are away.

I predict that that club will die within 2 years only to be ressurected probably playing at Stoke Park in the Intermediate League or lower.

And another thing, what wil happen to their reserve side. Will he keep them at the Spectrum with all of the cost on top of Woking's rent, scrap them altogether, or revert to playing at Burpham?

Its all nonsense TSF and a few of us have seen it all before it can only end in tears, unless someone at GCFC can tell us otherwise.

So you could have a crowd like this supporting Guildford City at Kingfield Stadium.

Think this is a bold move by the club if this goes ahead.

If the club do move out of the Spectrum ( which I think everyone in the can understand ) and the Council don't give any land to the club in the next few years it could bring the end to Guildford City again! This would be a real shame as they could be a big club within non league.

It is a catch 22 situation really as if they stay at the Spectrum the club can not move forward so might fold in a few years and if they move away and the never get any land then again this could be the end.

Think everyone involved with the club supports the Chairman and his visions, he has taken the club forward but they can't move any higher where they are and I guess you have to tried a different approach as myself and the previous Chairman never got anything from the Council.

My main concern would be the saying - Out of sight out of mind.

And I think everyone will agree that Councils aren't the best at sorting things out!
