I wouldn't sign Charlie Hearn to be honest, he didn't really shine for me. I would try and go for another midfielder to sign up, plus we'll have an addition to the midfield next season when Danny Slatter returns.

Charlie looks a class act. Combative, but his best attribute is his distribution. Accurate pass completion a lot higher than the other midfielders, but also seemed to have good vision to make the "killer" pass that splits the defence.

We only want players who can genuinely compete with the players we already have - Charlie does that.

Yes Charlie has earned his place on the bench but wouldn't we do better looking for someone who would relegate Barrett, Bossie, Long or McPhee to the bench?

That isn't Charlie.

Charlie would be an ok signing if we are looking to finish around ninth again if we want to do a bit better than that I'm not sure he is the boy to do it.

Considering how people thought about Barratt at first - and he has turned out to be a fine palyer, Hearn will will only add to the strength of the squad.

The difference was Barrett was carrying an injury and was on pain killing injections for at least six week. Agree Charlie has done OK but not as good as McPhee, Long, Barrett, Bostwick etc

Charlie Hearn has been an adequate squad player whilst with us. Okay, but not one to take us forward.

Charlie did ok for us, but drifted in and out of games, he wouldn't be a bad signing for us but probably wouldn't get regular 1st team football.

This is where my lack of experience with NL football will show, but I'm not afraid to admit what I don't know, so I'll ask anyway.

 

If our goal is to improve the squad rather than merely to maintain it, what is the best and most realistic source of potential signings? Young players not yet discovered (like Akinde?), or more experienced players being released from teams in the league who have been relegated, or another source?

 

I'm just curious what Liam's strategy has been in the past and whether that's likely to change if he has a little more money to spend for next season.

If Slatts can get back to fitness, he would be provide good cover across the midfeld, we should concentrate on improving the starting line up, not merely adding numbers
