Stevenage Borough and Graham Westley

Recommended Posts

For anyone that, like me, likes to read other Non-League forums you will have probably noticed that Stevenage Borough are apparently looking to jump back in with Graham Westley.

This is what I've managed to find out, a lot of it is just speculation.

When Westley first went to Stevenage Borough in 2003 he wasn't really liked even then. I think that people saw him as names that are unrepeatable on here for what he did to Farnborough, I'm not going into that, I'll be here all night.

Over the three years that he spent there he didn't share a fantastic relation with his own fans but I think they were willing to give him the benefit of the doubt as he was, at the end of the day, their clubs manager.

In his final season, 2005-2006, Westley became more of a hate figure and was either fired or decided to leave on his own terms, likely to be the former though.

Not an awful lot has happened since then and now other than Stevenage Borough have, as far as their fans are concerned at least, underachieved. At the start of the first season without Westley, the new manager, Mark Stimson, wasn't seen as the messiah due to Stevenage

Au Contraire

I think that appointing GW puts Stevenage in a very strong position. Regardless of what we think of him personally, there is no doubting his track record at this level of football, and it was him that took Stevenage from a team that was facing relegation to the play offs before he upped and left.

As to them being in Financial difficulties, I doubt that very much, they are one of the few teams that actually declare a profit, and even if they are short of money remember that GW is a very rich man himself.
