Youth teams

The thread has been removed from the forums on the grounds it has become too personal. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" />

Any further posts along the same lines will be deleted.

Super Daz, whilst I concur that some of the messages posted were getting a bit personal, please understand that this is probably out of frustration. I have interest in the youth set up at a younger age group than the one in question and was drawn to the club by articles in the press lauding the work done in developing the youngsters. ( For what ? )Evidently, MikeF and others were concerned with the way that local youngsters attracted at an early age by the lure of playing for the GNFC youth sides were easily dismissed at the age of 13, in favour of a "complete" side drawn from another area. I have been informed that no Gravesend 'preliminary' side has yet gone on to the Kent Youth League. As an adjudicator, you must note that the points put forward by MikeF and NikeTrainers were not fully answered. ? Thus their recourse was only to post further messages via this forum. Now the issue remains very much up in the air. Since the thread has been removed presumably the issue will now be considered as dead. Therefore, I should urge all parents of lads who are currently playing for GNFC sides at ages up to under 12, to make provision for what may happen after the under 13 season.

For any player / parent thinking of transferring, maybe consider staying where you are and worry about the possibility of transferring to GNFC when you are older.

Initially, there was nothing wrong with the thread - the problem was how it developed.

Firstly, it was removed due to the way in which certain people were getting rather personal.

Secondly, some of those people chose not to post in their usual names & hide under an alias (it's amazing what info you can use to work out who is who).

As previously said - there are certain things that should be said in private.

Finally - I don't care who was right or wrong - the thread has not been deleted - it has merely been removed from public display. As a moderator I can remove posts / threads should the need arise. On this occassion, a joint decision was made to remove the thread from the forums.

M. Chatwin's details have been made available on this forum previously.

If you have unanswered questions then ask him direct.

What happened to freedom of speech?

Unfortunately the internet (and this site)promotes the use of pseudonyms which only encourages people to post messages that they might not normally dare say to someones face. Could I therefore suggest you remove any "offensive" remarks and re-post all the other messages. At the end of the day I am only interested in the boys enjoying their football. And would really like some answers to the questions I asked.

I think the first quote is answered by the second quote.

Refer back to my postings and you will see ..Quote:....."As far as I am concerned what happened last year is done and dusted, but mistakes were made and the Club should learn from this."

I dont have a problem with Mick Chatwin. I also dont have his e-mail address.

But...Quote:......"Could someone, preferably from the Club and not from the youth set up, answer these questions?"

Well can they?

What is the point of a forum when you get directed to e-mail some one directly?

If any of my postings have caused offence I would really like to know. At no time did I post any message intended to offend. My intention is to get answers to my questions.

Finally who moderates the moderators? How can I know its not in Super Daz's interest to..."merely remove from public display" the postings.

Just to make things crystal clear if anyone wants to e-mail me on the subject directly my address is nike_trainers@hotmail.com

To edit or to censor that is the question

I'll try to answer the points you have raised as far as they relate to the Forum.

The point of the Forum is to allow people to air their views provided that they are not "offensive" or "derogatory". These are loose terms and may be defined differently by different people, which is why we have more than one moderator for the forums to try to ensure that there is some sort of consenus before any action is taken.

As to whether anyone from the Club can answer your questions, I don't know, and it is not the job of the moderators or administrators to chase up answers to questions. If they are straight forward enough, on the lines of what time does the Kettering match kick off, then chances are I will phone the club and get an answer.

However, I would suspect that due to the way that this matter has developed on here, it is not something that the Club would wish to discuss in public.

There was no suggestion that it was your posts necessarily that caused the thread to be removed, but you were not the only person posting, unless you were using several different alias of course.

I always find it difficult when somebody hides behind am alias and then questions somebody else's motives. How does anybody know that you aren't seeking information which another youth side would find useful? However I can assure you that none of the moderators on any of the Gravesend Forums would edit or remove a post or for that fact ban a user out of self interest, as I said the main Forums have a number of moderators and there are three Administrators looking over their shoulders as well.

I'm sorry that you can't get the answers that you want, but I'm afraid that there is nothing more that anyone directly connected to the forum can do to help you.

The Club's e-mail address is available on the main website and Mick's e-mail address is posted on a different thread somewhere on this forum.

If this is not acceptable to you then I am sorry.

I think this is all becoming a bit silly again.

1. As a moderator, Super Daz and Co have a responsibility to ensure that the message Board doesn't cause offence to other users and doesn't appear to be a vehicle for personal abuse. They do it because they have a sense of responsibility. Good luck to them for that.

2. I can only speak for myself here but I found some of the comments were obviously posted to stir things up. Thats not the idea of the site its to create a sensible diologue between interested parties.

3. I, and I suspect several others didnt have a clue what point half the messages were trying to make!

4. Although I don't have anyone playing for the junior teams myself, I was present at the under 11s cup final and after match celebration and found everyone concerned to be pretty happy with the state of things. If there are problems I certainly didn't see anything that day.

Its not often I totally agree with Super Daz! But this IS NOT the format to be making complaints about individuals, may I suggest contacting the club. The phone number is in the programme.

You dont even seem to know your own e-mail address !! One says Nike_trainers and the other, nick_trainers !!

If no-one connected with the forum can give you answers to your queries, then , as has already been stated, the best approach is to contact Mr Chatwin, via the club, or direct & to meet and discuss this, face to face.

I am glad to note that the matter is closed with regards to this forum though.

SD,

could you explain to me the difference (for the viewer) between a thread that has been removed from public view & one that has been deleted. Surely the correct procedure is to edit/delete abusive/too personal posts not the entire threads.

Although I do not condone some of the remarks made at Mick Chatwin I believe that what you have done has only served to aggravated the situation as their have been worse posts in the past & it looks like orders from above .

Quote:
Mike I can assure you that the club has no influence at all over the moderators on these forums.

This can be confirmed by looking at some of the criticisms I have levied at certain players over the months.

Would I get away with stuff like that if I were being controlled?

It was removed in it's entirety on the grounds that it was gradually getting worse as the thread continued.

The difference is deleted = gone forever, removed from public display = kept for legal reasons.
We are obliged to keep the thread due to the nature of certain postings.

The decision to remove it wasn't made only by myself.

Yes, I could have edit the abuse from each post but we shouldn't have to (because it should be there in the first place.)

It was not a case of 'orders from above'......

.......and you really think Mike Chatwin would dish his dirty laundry in public,
especially against people that used new login names especially for that thread?

The thread is removed - get over it.
