its not racist or xnophobic...its purely to do with the fact that all intelligent peoples that live in this wonderful country of ours...including most ethnic minorities....are of the belief that these 'asylum seekers' are actually mostly crooks...con men....bandits...layabouts....fraudsters and every other type of undesirables.....

 

we all know that there are situations where homeless and persecuted peoples are rightly given asylum and I think I would speak for most of the posters on here by saying that genuine asylum seekers who are in danger are indeed welcome to our shores.......trouble is urchino....most of 'em are very 'ungenuine' and thats why we make our stance against them.....

 

if the current rate of illegal immigration into this country continues and the current rate of acceptance to these 'con men' continues....we'll all find ourselves thinking about becoming asylum seekers ourselves.....then we'll find out how easy it is to get into another country will we not....by the way...

I have just returned from my corner shop with todays paper.

(Yes, it is run by Mr Patel, who was born and bred in this country and considers himself as English as I do). We discussed the headlines of todays Daily Express, "Record Number of BNP stand in Polls - FURY OVER BRIT NAZI PLOT".

We both agreed its hardly surprising given todays political attitudes towards immigrants, (that's more PC than refugees).

He then showed me the front page of The Sun, where it alleged that Tariq Aziz will take up residence in this country in one of The Prince of Wales's homes !

I ask you ? What sort of deal has this Catholic Arab done with the C.I.A. and M.I.6 ???

Sorry Urchino, but to put the matter into perspective, (Yes - I know your religion and background, cos I've read all your threads and replies).

 

This country IS multi national, like it or not. I am 55 years of age; brought up a God fearing C of E christian, baptised AND confirmed. In later life, did not turn away from the church but looked more at the earlier religions of this country, (wicca, etc. check 'em out).

I have friends from many pursuasions. i.e. Catholic, muslim, jewish and even Arab Baptist !) I take everyone as I find them. There are good and bad in all societies.

 

I will defend your right to my dying day for you to speak freely. That at least, is one good thing about this country.

 

HOWEVER. Please look at a world Atlas and compare the land mass size of the British Isles to other nations, then tell me we can go on absorbing, like a sponge, every person who, for whatever reason, is not happy with their land of birth.

 

What's wrong with America ? It's massive and all they complain about,(especially in Texas), is the amount of illegan Cubans and Mexicans that 'flood', (their words), into the good old U.S. of A. Think about it.

 

Besides: In the U.S.A., ALL school children have to swear allegience to their flag and Country at the start of classes every day. Something we could do with in this country, though I doubt Bradford, Crawley and Southall would agree !!

 

Australia probably has the best policy on immigration. If you fit the criteria of intelligence and profession, you're in. If not, Don't bother !!!!

I was born into a great community in Wood Green north London and my Wife into Haringay just up the road

From my grandfathers time through to and including the first 19 years of my life our community absorbed migrants from Italy,Greece,Turkey and the Irish and Jews from allover

Key word? absorbed, we loved the atmosphere where we lived and the social life was top class

Regular as clockwork We would wander home early hours of the morning often to meet at the road side cafe at maybe 2am for a laugh and joke and all in complete safety and comfort

I suppose I'd better explain the reason. Yes - I'm English and proud of it. My local shop-keeper is Mr Patel, born here , and proud of it.

 

The point I originally started from, was that if you live in Good Old England, then you should expect to live by English ways. Don't try to turn this country into an extension of your birth place. If that's how you feel, then kindly return there.

 

I have no problem with religions or traditions, as long as the English way of life is predominant.

 

No more arranged marriages ! No more the wife walking two paces behind her husband, wearing a sari, while her husband wears a Burton £30 suit ! No more gang wars between Turks and Greek in Harringay ! No more yardi gang killings in Harlesden. (Go back to Jamaica and do it)

I was in Sainsbury's at the week-end (in Deepest rural stock-broker Surrey). They have employed two Muslim girls on the check-out. Both with their heads covered down to the neck. (I have NO problem with that !)

 

BUT - What surprised me was I watched them pass packets of Walls pork suasages through the scanner ! Weird ? or does the cellophane wrapper mean they are not handling pork.

 

Just for the record - MANY years ago, in my single days, one of my best mates was of the Jewish faith. We decided on a whim to drive early to the coast and get a ferry to the Isle of Wight. By the time we arrived in Ryde, we were starving and called into a cafe for brekky. I just fancied a couple of bacon butties and ordered. My mate said, "I'll have the same !" My face must have asked the unspoken question, cos he replied. "I won't eat bacon during passover, but for the rest of the year ? Why not ?"

I am not Orthodox and basically go to the events at synagogue and the beliefs of the Religion! Your mate reasoning is strange and can not explain why he did that as Pork is forbidden completley as i said i am lapsed!
