"What happens on the pitch this season....

Recommended Posts

does not matter" - as stated by Roy Merryweather at the first open meeting about the new ground project.

Well we are now in a relegation situation and it will only be through luck of a leauge reorganisation or other teams withdrawing from this leauge that we will stay up.

The lack of action to remove Wilkinson from the managers position until to late was the main factor in our demise this year. The lack of action last year to stop relegation should have been learnt from.

There have been too many poor management decisions at the top level in the past few years which has now put Slough Town FC in its lowest Leauge level in recent history.

The playing staff and on field management is now looking good but was put in place far to late.

It is the fans that will now have to explain to their freinds and work mates why such a once great team as Slough Town FC are being relegated again and my answer will be "well we are one of the best supported teams at this level, with a team of able and promising players and a manager who has his squad working well and with dicipline, there is also the hope of a new ground but that is a few years off as long as we get planning permission. But we have no ground due to previous board management incompetance at paying rent and appointing managers due to their previous links to the club rather than management skills along with poor finacial awareness". The answer is true and factual.

Yet again we face another close season of anguish due to issues and incompetance off the field!

Guest disapointed rebel,

couldn't agree more, decisions should have been taken earlier to get rid of wilko he may have been a playing legend for us but that shouldn't have kept him in the management job as long as it did, and for this i feel is the reason we are in the position we are now, although if we can keep a majority of the current crop of players we have now i feel sweetman will take us back up next season

Yes, poor decisions and a certain amount of complacency that we couldn't end up relegated yet again as well. Remember the pre-season friendlies weren't important either in terms of results (did we win any?).

We move on now with a new Chairman and we must learn by the mistakes. Loyalty is to be applauded, but you have to look at the bigger picture as well. I agree Derek Sweetman would take us back up if we are in fact to be relegated and if we are not then there's no reason why we can't challenge for a play off place next season in BGSW.

Clive ...I agree with most of your comments and hindsight is a wonderful thing , but your above comment worries me ?

We as a management comittee and a new Chairman are trying to do whats best .. I agree maybe things could have been acted on quicker as you refer too, but we really have turned a corner as far as re organisation within our club, and we will work hard and long to achieve what we think is right and fitting for our club and its long suffering supporters...

and to Reading Rebel ...Playing budgets will be sorted and we will not promise things we can not afford ..we will not go down that road ever again this club must never be totally reliant on one persons money - please we need to work together and the more we raise the more we can spend ....

Thanks to the wonderful support from the supporters ...I know its been said many many times , but listerning to the man utd and chelskis of this world moaning about there lot ! only makes these words stronger and more important ( Slough Supporters are simply the best) no if's buts or whats ..you are !

Thats the trouble the pressure is now on if we go down to bounce straight back. But i agree living within the budget is important,id rather have a club in the spartan for a couple of seasons even than no club at all.

BTW if we get relegated to step 5 it is not Dog and duck as there are some decent clubs, any lower step 6-8 you really are talking sunday football level.

Chris you will see I used the words "previous board management incompetance" not current board management, as at last with Steve Easterbrook we have a chairman who is giving direction in the correct way and has a realistic future planned for the club - unlike the previous bummbling random non-logical fantisies and f-ups of Deaner and Merryweather.

I think you've hit the nail on the head Staines about Deaner. OK, he saved the club once, but he did us no favours in the long term and his departure was the best thing that happened the club this season.

Despite our relegation i'm more optomistic than for a long time. We've got a decent manager, good set of players, plans for a new ground etc. And of course amazing supporters! Summed up yesterday by easily outnumbering and out singing Fleet (what other club secretary would be behind the goal in a suit with his computer getting songs going?!)

Whatever league we end up in, let's keep the faith and make sure we have a new season to remember for the right reasons.

yup, I have to say the complete inability to replace Wilko at the start of the season before the rot had well and truly set it cost us at the end of the day. And I hope that the powers that be have the balls to pull the trigger on our current manager if we go through a similar stick patch at the start of next season
