who would of thought............

Who would of thought That Basildon United would have such a big say in who won the league? Draw against Enfield and an 8-0 defeat to concord away and a 5-1 loss at home. Concord win on goal difference and enfield one point from the the title. Just shows leagues arn't won or lost on the last day. Well done to scopesy and his players and we wish you all the best.

The problem with this level of football is that teams finish their season's before others. It was always going to be the case with a league with odd numbers.

However I do feel that Enfield 1893 should have been playing at the same time as the Barkingside Vs Concord game. Barkingside knew that they had to score 5 goals to win the title, which was never going to happen so in the end they didn't really have anything to play for.

Had all 3 teams gone into today with 74 points, who knows what might of happened. If say news that 1893 had say gone 1-0 down and it got through to Barkingside, they would only have had to beat Concord to win the title.

Still, it's all if's, but's, and maybe's. On another thread Lovely Stuff has said it must be as gutting as the Yeovil game. I'm not so sure, not that I follow 1893, but that day at Yeovil Enfield were top and to win and still be overtaken, by one goal, was very hard to take. At least 1893 fans knew that if Concord won that was that.

But as I say, if they'd both been playing at the same time who knows......

What a load o b####cks Barkingside had nothing to play for; They had their pride to play for as always, as well as he small matter of runners up spot; Enfield need to stop feeling sorry for themselves and understand that it is a mathematical fact that the team that got the best results over 32 games won the title; By the way just ask Sixy, CRFC BOSS or One Breast how difficult Barkingside made it for them today.

All what your saying is a fair point about playing at the same time etc but it was just not possible as you groundshare with ware fc.
For any Enfield followers at todays game im sure you will be nothing but reassured by the performance that Barkingside gave as in my opinion they gave there all rite up till the final whistle.
Well done to Concord Rangers i said it before for me the best team we came up against this season by far. Well done lads!
A great finish to the season and a credit to all 3 clubs involved for what must be one of the closest finishes to a essex senior league title in years!

Station Road - All teams have pride to play for and I apologise if you, or your team, are offended. I'm do not doubt your team gave it your all. I was just stating the fact that, in my opinion, maybe if if it were more mathmatically possible more would have "been up some for grabs" as Brian Moore put it some years ago.

The Boss - If you read my post and my username I have no connection with the new enfield set up. I, again personally, decided that once EFC had been folded that was that (my opinion, not for townies to quote me on, I think you had a major hand in that happening, anyway I digress). Oh the groundshare bit, ESL knew beforehand that 1893 shared and, lets be honest, probably knew that they would be up there at the end of the season and should have sorted out an away fixture on the last day when the gound wasn't available

As you say a great finish to the season, it's just a shame that teams at the next level will remain there if resignations/ non promotions happen when there are 3 teams in this league as well as the Spartan South Midlands who deserve credit, and promotion for success, rather than hang on again at the bottom of Isthmian North.

i.e, if Leyton do a double jump down, I'd prefer to see runners up of ESL and Spartan play off for a promotion place rather than 21st of Ryman North be reprieved. I believe that is Ilford. No offence to their team/supporters/ and especially committee who I have met on many occasions. But I do feel that success should be rewarded, not failure.

The 2 games at Southchurch Park were pivotal as well.

When Enfield visited, they were 1-0 ahead and should have been out of sight. Manor even gave them a warning late on by going close with a few minutes left. The visitors paid no heed, apparently, and Manor snatched an unlikely 1-1 draw.

With Concord, though, Southend Manor were in their faces from the off and if anything were slightly the better side for a fair while. Concord hung on in there, rallied to take control, and late late on took advatage of the one goalkeeping error in the entire game to get an injury time winner. They kept playing the whole way through and got their reward.

Like Rookie said, though, coming to Gardiners Close against a team that had lost 15 and drawn 2 of their last 17 games, and had lost 6-0 at London APSA the previous week, Enfield dropping 2 points that day was equally crucial.

The table doesn't lie. Well done Concord, worthy winners and a credit to the ESL - we will miss our trips to the better part of Canvey. Congratulations too, to Enfield, who were up at the top for so long and having to constantly play miles from their spiritual home. It's no consolation now to be beaten on goal difference but you should be propud of yourselves.
