ayer of the yearA REQUEST...

Some of the supporters have expressed to my dad in the shop that it would be good if there was a piece of paper in the programme or handed round the ground to nominate player of the season as many of them do not go in the bar after the game.

Is it possible for this to be done please?

Call me Mr "thinking outside the box" but couldn't the people who don't use the bar just write their nominations down on any old piece of paper and leave them with somebody in the Clubshop, Turnstiles, or give them to somebody who is going to the bar.

Its hardly rocket science is it!

We had a total of thirty-one votes, for seven different players. I agree that Ryan is an excellent choice; but I'm even happier with the thought that we have seven players in the running for Player of the Season. I have all the Player of the Month results collated - nine awards, 125 votes cast for a total of fifteen different players (and one chairman).

The system sems to be working. We've tried several over the years, and this one is as good as any. Basically there is one rule: if you want to vote, LET ME KNOW. Find me in the bar after the game is not a bad idea; if you don't want to come into the bar, or you have to leave in a hurry, find me during the game. I go to a lot of effort chasing up people I know want to vote, but I don't have the time (or the inclination) to personally canvass every single spectator at the game.

Not everybody uses the bar after the game; not everybody goes to the club shop, or the tea hut, or buys a programme, or uses the website. There are some parts of the ground where you can't hear the tannoy very well. There is no one method of getting information out that works for everybody. But is there really anybody involved with this club who doesn't know what I look like, or where I usually stand during the game, or doesn't know that I am the one to contact? I'm sorry if this sounds a bit stroppy, but I'm still getting told that "other people" haven't been asked. Whoever they are, they seem to know enough to pass on the information that they "haven't been asked" to a third party, and the third party seems to know enough to tell me about it - later.

And on the subject of non-sequiturs, does anybody have a phone number for Ryan? I need to have a word with him about getting the trophies engraved.

Pip-pip,

SiD
