Note for walkers

Just a little reminder that we will be starting the walk from WP at 7am, so can you please be there by 6:45 so we can get off on time, after a few photos.

 

I understand that a few people are now leaving earlier, so if we don't see you on route, good luck.

 

If you want a reminder of the route, it can be found on the Slough page of my website.

 

Also, if you know a walker that does not have access to this forum, can you please let them know to get to WP before 7am.

I will be one of the ones leaving early, past experience tells me that I slow down dramatically as we near the finish line so want to make sure I leave plenty of time to get there. Good luck to all those taking part.

 

Kay, what time had you suggested to leave? Can't remember if it was 6am or 6.30am.

I also suggest that at some point during the afternoon we get a complete group photo done at Fleet, for my website and for the papers.

Cool 6 suits me. Just makes me feel more comfortable heading off with that extra hour. I know the Cousins family were also looking to leave earlier so there should be a good number heading off then.

i'd go for a 3 miles per hour walking pace and add on an hour if that helps! Oh and I'll sponsor all the walkers a fiver each as I'm skiving out of this one, so can someone confirm how many are doing it and i'll sort the cash out

6am is very early for me, but it does give us (well me at least) more drinking time/ scope for stopping at nice pubs on the way up there..maybe even a bite to eat. Will the early starters also be leaving from Wexham Park? If so, I might join depending on how dreadful I feel in the morning.

I've done some rough calculations :

 

At 3mph : about 8 hours 15 minutes

At 3.5mph : about 7 hours

At 4mph : about 6 hours 15 minutes

 

Anyway, that is at constant speed, which of course, none of us will be doing.

So how many are going at 6 and how many at 7? Its a shame we cant all start together but its only fair to allow extra time for slower walkers.

Those leaving at 6am will also be leaving from Wexham Park. I do have a print out of the route Matt if you need it.

It would be nice to all leave together, but I would be so pissed off if I missed the game after walking all that way and am not prepared to take the chance. Would rather have loads of time at the other end to have a drink and relax than be stressing about not getting there.

actually on a slightly different note - are any of the walkers living in burnham/britwell and need a lift to wexham park? i'm thinking of leaving my car there until marcus drives me home again and would be happy to give people lifts.

Alan and myself will arriving at WP before 6am, and will stay until the last walker arrives, and then head off.

 

Alan just told me that there are some people who he can not reach, so they will still turn up for 7am.

 

I have a few time sheets that I will give out as well. These give rough times at set points along the way, so you can gauge how you are doing.

As a guide, day one of the epic walk to Worthing was about the same distance as you're doing to Fleet (27 miles). We left at 8.00am and arrived at about 4.30pm with no major stops along the way. We probably stopped for, collectively, no more than an hour during the course of the 27 miles.

 

I think that averages out at about 3 1/4 mph so anyone leaving any later than 7.00am is going to struggle (unless it's Radders who takes half as many paces as everyone else). From memory, the last 5 miles was an absolute killer!
