non league paper

Recommended Posts

Once again superb coverage of our league in this quality read!!!

I understand that Hullbridge have overnight changed their name to Hallbridge it really must be the case as it was printed 3 times!

Add to this no mention of our game and also the other 0-0 game at Sawbo..oh i forgot a 0-0 must mean a bore draw and not worthy of a mention..im starting to get the idea.

Overall coverage of our league is poor and i for one will not be buying this paper anymore!!!

rant over!

I really believe that if a sports newspaper starts covering all the matches at step 5-6-7 that represent over 700 clubs instead of the 240 at step 1-2-3-4,they will make a fortune. Those clubs are the majority in non league football.

Why should the NLP give us coverage when our own local press which has a distrbution covering 80% of the clubs in the ESL, (Yes that local paper known as the Echo) gives us all of fifty words on a friday or monday. At least i now know why its called the echo. . . cause any negative comments you give them fall on deaf ears and bounce straight back at you. WORST LOCAL SPORT PAPER IN THE COUNTRY` ` ` SURLEY!!!!

Dick marshall thinks thats your new club name. Will you be going by that name Thursday i wonder. I suppose that depends if you win or not. Whatever happens i cant wait to rush to my local echo stockest and read the detailed report on our encounter. All thirteen words of it.

To be honest Rookie,he has been quite good with us and everything i e-mailed him was in the paper the following day.I haven't emailed him for about 2 months now,i'm happy with all the publicity he gave Hullbridge. You know there was the Southend Times that used to cover ours,GWR,Canvey and Southend manor games plus white Ensign,Benfleet,Stambridge and all southend borough combination teams. They have stopped 3 months ago and it's really a shame.A town like Basildon should have a good coverage of local football in the press.

I promise you its not that i want to see Basildon in it more. I want to to see the ESL get the coverage in its local paper. The battle for the title has been great over the past several weeks and coverage over that period has been so little it would barely cover a page if all the reports were put together from the last four weeks or so. Of course i accept that Basildon are not going to get a big feature with our current performances and league position but the ESL in genral should at least get the same coverage across the league as one non local premiership team (West Ham) gets. How many people buy the paper to read the West Ham report. Lets be fair if your a west ham fan, by monday you have already watched the game or highlights or at least read the national press for a report. As i have said in previous posts, the truth is that the reporters can get in free to see West Ham if they cover the game. I am willing to bet that the reporter who goes every week is a West Ham fan. Three months ago the echo increased in price by just under 10%. Surley that would cover a page on the Esl?

the irony is that 20 years ago when i was following west ham home and away i was greatly irriated by the fact that the echo barely mentioned the hammers while basildon then in the isthmian league used to get half page reports.

Totally agree!5 local teams in the ESL(Basildon,Bowers,Concord,Hullbridge,Southend Manor) should get at least a page.West Ham gets already enough coverage elsewhere...

Write, email or call the papers editor. The only way to get things changed is people power. I get the feeling that the editor of the paper just lets the sports department get on with it. If he/she gets enough of the same comments they will be left with no choice but to look at the situation. Unless of course you all just prefer to write on here and not really make a difference.

The 5 clubs should make a concerted effort to bring the matter to the people in charge. That's the only way they are gonna listen to us.If it's only one club doing on his own,it won't get any result.

Feck the clubs coachie. I'm a local man who wants to read about "LOCAL" football. We have to do something as readers not just club officials. I want to buy the echo but out of principal don't very often because i know what i really want to read about wont be in there. I dont need to read about Basildon cause im there but i would like read how other games panned out in the league in a little more dfetail.
