Todays game!

Recommended Posts

As Gary said on another thread, we were too narrow today. It was a straightforward victory against a poor team, with a couple of good performances - McPhee and Moore looked good in my opinion

Worryingly, Liam started with a 4-3-3 line up (hence the lack of width). He has tried this a few times lately and it has never looked effective. Hopefully, this is just a necessity brought on by rotating the team to keep everyone fresh for the 10th

We did just enough on the day. Rather coasted second half after the second goal (great finish by Stacy incidentally after Akinde had rather made a mess of a clear cut chance).

Hope we dont defend like that at Wembley though - we certainly tried our best to give Alty a way back in to the game - just a good job they thought the goal was ten foot higher & wider than it was!

Equally hope Lance is more convincing on high balls on the big day - failed to catch hold of 2 today that on another day would have cost us.

No matter that its not really important, but it would be good to finish the league with 2 more wins to equal last seasons points total, which would mean either a 7th or 8th place finish again. A draw at FGR, plus a win over Oxford would guarantee at least 8th.

They look a poor team, (Farsley knocked the ball around better on Tuesday for example), but I hope they stay up for the fans sake who are always a nice friendly and vocal bunch.

McPhee is a shining example of a player whose work rate puts him above the ordainary, 90 minutes into a game already easily won and he is still throwing himself into tackles!

Barrett is begining to win me over now, he does a good sitting in the gap between midfield and attack aand breaks up a lot of stuff coming out of the opposition defences, and I hope that Hearn is offered a contract as he looks like he could achieve things.

"Big" John Akinde looks a tired man who needs a rest, when he was given that free run on goal which ended with our second it looked like he was wading through custard!

And it was good to see Chucki and Macca back and charging around, so overall not a bad day!

Down to Liam and AK if that is the case (rather than some chap in the Outer Hebrides !!). I am sure they will sort it !
