HORSHAM V BTFC SCORES UPDATE

Recommended Posts

Didn't think the turn out was too bad still numbering about 50 for an end of season game with nothing at stake, weather wasn't the greatest and Horsham is a bit of a trek.

There is quite a few teams that vist New Lodge would love to have that kind of support.

Just my opinion wink

Being one of the absent FANS makes me feel a sense of guilt, Which I should not really feel. In order to subsidise my trips to away games I sometimes have to work to make funds available for such trips.

Let's hope that all those who TC refers to get their backsides down to the New Lodge for our last league game of the season.

LETS GO OUT WITH A BANG

and I welcome your opinion, and this is my view.

Our turn out was around 50% down imo, perhaps you're right, other teams might love it, but do we want to be like other teams?

To be perfectly honest, I was also disappointed with our home turn out V's Tonbridge.
My point is, 'some' of those who regularly question our team and their commitment should take a look in the mirror now and again.

I can say, I can't fathom it out. Why support a team for the whole season and then decide on the last away game that you are not going to show up?

We all want this club to move up and on. For the supporters it's frustrating. There are certain things that are out of their control but getting behind the team and encouraging them to push on further is something we can effect and normally do. It was a disapointing turn out last Saturday and I really don't think that the players deserved that.

The teams performance was a good, well balanced one and those who missed the game, missed a fiesty afternoons entertainment, very untypical of where we find ourselves at this time of the season.

I'm very much looking forward to next season. Having spoken to Jason and Grant (and interviewed the Chairman for this Saturday's programme), I think we'll be challenging again next season...and I hope our supporters will be right behind the team as they have been...

If i read this right i think it's a bit harsh.

So do you now propose to tell all members / supporters that if they miss a game home or away then not to bother coming out to support the club at all?

I'm sure thats not the way forward.

Wooooaaaaaahhhhhh...hang about. People have commitments...and thinking over my post, it's never a given that people can turn up to every game considering the cost of travel...

The club doesn't have a given to expect support from everyone at every game but the supporters can't possibly expect the frequesnt few (to a greater or lesser extent, depending on who you are) to keep subbing the clubs continued competative ambitions, which, from their expectations is promotion, trophy's and the such like. It's a balance. We all want to win something and we all want to have a football club to support...it's just striking the right balance and asking the right questions.

What is it we the supporters want? If it's just a football club in which we just want to go down and watch a game of football, fair enough. But supporting this club we all surely want more? If that is the case then lets all pull together. It can be fun.

No one should feel guilty or be made to apologise for missing one game because of commitments but I just feel that it would've been nice to see more of the Blue Army at the game. We're a great club, with a great support but we've had a difficult (am I understating here?) season.

This season, things haven't gone the way we all would've liked them to have gone and we have escaped from possible relegation to experienece a real possibility of a play off place. We have played in the F A Cup first round against a top flight League team...we have expereienced as much in one season as many clubs have in three. It certainly hasn't been boring. We all know we have had problems on the pitch, especially with injuries. Nevertheless, it's been exciting, amusing, frustrating, heartbreaking (on some occassions) and I am damn well proud to call myself a supporter of this club as I know many of us are.

I've seen on the forum and read in the news that various clubs are now in trouble or being sold. Our oppenents on Saturday raen't in a peachy position, themselves considering...

Lets all get down to the club on Saturday and get behind the lads and celebrate our club.

Whilst we are on the subject of attendance i have been doing some research and it shows that our last home game of last season when we played Leyton and won 2-0 thanks to a brace of goals from Burbridge and we brought in 761 fans so it would be absoulutely FANTASTIC if we could get that many this saturday at home to Staines and maybe even go beyond 761 fans and not make the stadium look full make it sound full we should all fire up those vocal chords and make the players in blue think "WOW listen to the fans chanting for us we should be proud of this support and we should reward them with a stunning performance."

I will have my camera at hand on saturday to get a few films on the game and get some photos of the boys in action.

Our home average this season is 549 compared to 558 last season, 542 the season before that and 524 the season before that. I think this season's figure is pretty respectable considering that we have never really been in a strong position in the league and that some clubs have suffered some quite significant declines despite performing well. We have lost an attractive fixture in the Derby game now so will have to work hard to maintain that average for next season.

Our away average for the same seasons has been 568 this season, then 539, 541 and 370 (no AFCW). The turn out at Horsham was a bit disappointing but let's be fair that has generally been the exception rather than the rule. I think it's an error to look at a bowl of apples, taste one and decide that they are all no good (Cantona-esque or what). I'm sure that Blue Army will be fired up for the new season and if the team can perform reasonably well, then I think we can surpass this season's numbers.

Our home support has been fairly consistant this year, our average boosted by the swansea game but generally good regular 450 -500 boosted by the away fans. If chelmo and wimbledon depart I dont think our home gates will suffer unduly as neither brought that many fans away with tthem, chelmo obviously the best but these will be replaced by dartford which will be a local derby if only seperated by the bridge and Dover who have a good following. We also have lost Leyton (thank heavens) who brought nobody so whoever replaces them will increase our average.

As for away support we have regularly taken 100+ away with us and I think were TC was coming from was that we only ahd about 50 max on sat with several of our reglar blue army members missing. Whether this was a planned decision not to go or just a coincidence I dont know but they certainly missed an exciting game which we deservedly won. if as was said above we had 700+ at our last game last year and that was against Leyton with zero support we should, if everyone turns out to give the lads and management a good send off for a great years entertainment, have over 1000 with staines still in with a chance of 2nd place.

I hope I am right and we end with a top game and a good win.

I know we have quite a few coming from the BRIGHT side of Billericay.

So Upda strike the pose mate we will be behind a goal near you.

I'm not sure but most of our away games have a coach and the fact that we did not have one for Horsham made an impact on my decision to work rather than travel the dreaded trains.

Well done for Friday night Gazza you were very well behaved.

As being part of the Blue Army and my extended family i can assure you the lads behind the goal are as pasionate and proud of the riccay as anyone else.If they don't turn up at times it doesn't mean they feel any less about the team, like myself at times i have 15 mins to get from my work place in Brentwood to the lodge and stand behind the goal with the lads, thats after a 8 hour shift, and i am sure theres many others in the same boat, as for the Horsham game it dosen't matter where the riccay fans are we are one big family as i met up with Umbrellaman with one of the pubs he sent me, they are all true to blue , and you cant get better then that. Blue fan

IMO still a harsh statement for the people who decided not to travel to Horsham as most of them have been to proberly 90% or more of the games this season.
