The Essex Senior League

Recommended Posts

Call it sour grapes, call it bad losing, call it what you want but the fact is, the ESL haven't wanted us to go up from day one and just when it looks like we might, they've done everything in their power to help prevent us.

Yes, we've beaten the 2 best sides in the league (B'Side and Concord) when it mattered this week so why can we do the same against Eton Manor and Romford?? Right to ask??

Whilst we still come to terms with last nights abysmal performance and 4-1 hammering AT HOME, i feel the majoirty of the blame should lie at the imcompentant, no-nothing heirachy at the ESL.

1) And as Chopper pointed out on his post about Eton, a step 5 team, especailly one going for the league, should never be allowed to play on a Sat, Tues, Thurs, Sat then Tues. Had we won last night our record would have read...played 5, won 3 drawn 2...not bad?? But the ESL can't have that, so what do they do....

2) I know, lets put a woman offical in charge of the line against Romford. The same lino that 4 weeks earlier, couldnt see a ball 'pedro mendes-esque' so far over the line because she wasnt/couldn't keep up with play. So with the scores at 1-1 last night she gives a goal to romford that was never ever over the line...why...because the romford bench were in her ear to give the goal because she was a good 6 yds behind play.

3) Play 6 games in 14 days, finish our season on a Wed night when Concord finish their's 3 days later on a Sat, and in mid January, ourselves went 3 whole weeks without playing 1 game. Suddenly, everyone had fixtures and no one could accomodate us??

In big games such as last night, big officals are needed, but yet again the ESL have shown that they are hell-bent on preventing Enfield going up and employing tw@ats as officals only made it worse.

We have gone about it, rightly or wrongly if dignified manner, not complaing, not making a scene, but just trying to do what we know we can do and shove it up their arses at the end of the season. Unfortunately, that doesnt seem to be the case as I think last night was 1 game to far/much for us and we buckled. I'd like to see a team play 6 games in 14 days and still win the league!!!

I hope the ESL are proud of what they have doen this year, its a shambolic league with 3-4 shambloic teams in it. Fair play to the winners of the league, whoever it may be, but the way the ESL have gone about their business is poor and unprofessional.

Have a word with your landlords. If their floodlights had been in good working order, you would not have had such an end of season backlog of fixtures.

How ironic that the very floodlights that had looked like saving Enfield 1893's season (you know the game I mean, no need to rake those old coals) could end up being the very thing that costs you the title!!!

Chin up Berba, it ain't over til it's over.

Very sour grapes indeed Mr Berbagod (great name btw).

Playing 6 games in 14 days is not easy, but maybe thats where you need a "squad" that can deal with it.

Like in the Premiership... Arsenal have wilted away because they have has the squad players to come in for tired players like Fabregas.

Whilst on the other hand Man United and Chelsea have players to come in and replace their big players (well maybe not so much Chelsea it seems...).

Concord have a massive squad, and despite how much or how little money they are throwing at it, they really want to get out this league.

It could be proving worth it, cause as we are approaching the final furlong, it looks like they could be the team to win it "on the nose"...

We are putting same in now as we did at start, we have just been keeping the squad topped up when needed.

Not over yet for anyone but you have to say Barkingside / Enfield have the points we have to win all our games,

So they have to be still favourites ! so dont give in berbaCOD !

the league has all ways been the league.

The offficals are only as good as the players at this level.

Lovely heart on the sleeve rant, and sidestepped many facts better than your players did last night.

Enfield is not in Essex. Ware is not in Essex.

Therefore like many clubs before you (including us) were grateful when the ESL allowed you in.

I agree the assistant on the dugout side should have been on the other side, and got some decisions wrong. But not enough to reverse the 4-1 decision.

As for a dignified manner. Is that your goalkeeper who ran 40 yards twice, to remonstrate with the official, in such a manner that meant that the Romford bench had to intervene. Or your bench that ran 60 yards to do the same, or your supporter that jumped the barrier, ran on the pitch then argued with a league official whilst still on the pitch?

Your manager however displayed a great understanding of taking it on the chin and congratulated the supporters.

Whilst it is difficult to maintain momentum when you are playing 3 times a week that was due ground problems and not league problems, so a little unfair to lay all the blame at their door.

TR, 2 a certain extent u are right in what you say but in such a big game and with the score the way it was, i honestly think any keeper worth his sort would have done exactly the same thing. It wasn't even close to not being in...

But the thing that wound us up was she didnt get just one decision wrong, she got pretty much everything wrong. Could you really see her telling the Romford bench...'sorry lads...only 2 standing allowed please!!' I dont think so!! She wasnt and will never be strong enough...and the league exploited her and this by putting her as an offical for such a big game. Give her the line in apsa / basildon game (sorry hookey!!) and she'd do well.

I didnt see our supporter jump over the barrier, he should have known better if he did and we apologise but then again, your coach should have known better after what he done to our keeper. Swings and roundabouts really.

At the end of the day, it wont change the result, we just didnt have what it takes last night and it cost us big time.

She didn't realise that Danny Rafis had played the ball to himself! But she wasn't the best. Not sure if it is done for PC reasons, but officials need to be the best available for these matches. Still saying that, we did rather purr last night.. smile
