Farsley Celtic Tonight

Recommended Posts

Massive game for Celtic, they are 1 point off of relegation and will be giving it their all against us tonight, it's important that we finish the season with some good performances and lots more points under our belts so that we go to Wembley full of confidence, so we will need to be at our best to get 3 points tonight against a team that will be facing Blue Square North football next season if they dont win their last few games. Should be a good game.

On a more worrying matter, the bad wife came in from work tonight, in a bit of a hump because I had neglected to tell her there was a game. "Do you have to go to every game?" she asked in all seriousness. Errr ... well yes, like that's the whole point.

Would any medical experts like to venture an opinion as to my beloved's strange frame of mind?

A poor 1st half - really felt like the players were going through the motions. We conceded a soft goal - a long ball through the middle which the attacker ran on to & lobbed Lance with. There was some criticism of Lance for being off his line, but as he often does the sweeper role, I think that was a little unfair - and he made up for it twice at least later on with an excellent parry away from a header in the first half & a one on one block in the second.

Liam must have read the riot act at half time, as we looked amuch better team second half, particularly once Smith got the first goal. That said, Farsley actually played some decent attacking football with the score 1-1 and could easily have regained the lead before they conceded a soft second goal. Our third goal was a decent move and a good finish by Hearn. In between the second & third goals, there was one excellent move, which more unfortunately failed to finish when he scuffed his shot.

And only a goalline clearance & an excellent block by the keeper on the follow up prevented us gaining a 4-1 win.

Good to see Chukki back, if only for 5 minutes (and he almost made a dramatic return when his first touch 30 seconds after he came on was a header straight at the keeper).

Also good to see that we could survive without Stacy - a sensible move by Liam to finally rest him, given that he's played almost every game.

Thought George had a good second half, albeit that the final ball was still a little lacking on most occasions.

2 excellent drives by Bossy tonight as well - both just inches over the bar - the first one in particular, the keeper was rooted to the spot & seemed in astate of disbelief as it flashed just over at such pace.

Oh I always go - just that sometimes she decides to give me grief over it & insist that no normal person would be so obsessive. Other times she is happy enough, even comes along occasionally & will be at Wembley. I think it's something to do with the moon's gravitational pull on the female brain.

John Akinde looked understandably rusty, he needed the game. Chukki looked hungry when he came on and did well, another good performance from Luke Moore and Charlie Hearn is showing some quality. Nothing to shout about in the 1st half (as mentioned in an earlier post), but Liams motivational talk at half time obviously did the trick, we were classy in the Second half and totally outplayed a relegation bound Farsley Celtic. Well played lads.

Lance has been lobbed a few times, but as Alan said, that's because he's effectively a sweeper- I think we'd concede many more goals if he didn't clear loose balls and instead allow the striker a one-on-one with him.

Slowly but surely, we are looking like a more footballing team lately- Hearn's goal proved that. There was some excellent build-up, a purposeful cross, and a classy finish, rather than the hoofball to Big John or balls into the corners.

George did look more confident tonight, as did Luke Moore. If only he had as composed a finish against Halifax!

Pretty much agree with most that has been said. They barely had a kick first half apart from the goal and the one smart save from Lance. We had several chances but failed to put any of them away.

Second half was much brighter and some decent stuff played by both teams but in the end the better team won. Still think we would benefit from some width, straight balls knocked up to the front without the midfield supporting are usually wasted.

Charlie Hearn again made some telling passes and assured touches, George ran his socks off as usual but for me still lacks that bit of quality in the end product. Agree Bostwick made a difference and hit 2 screamers both of which cleared the bar by inches. Nobody had a bad game (although Lance's kicking second half was a bit hair-raising on occasion) but was a bit surprised at Smudger as MOM, I thought Ricketts was the outstanding player on the night. Good to get back to winning ways, another 90 mins on Thursday playing the way we did 2nd half should give us a good chance of another 3 points.

We can now still finish as high as 7th or (theoretically anyway) as low as 15th. It would be good to achieve the 7th place and to get close to last seasons points total which we could potentially still do, with the games we have left.

FGR next Tuesday will be the hardest of the four, I suspect, although neither Oxford or Alty at home will be easy - especially Alty as they are fighting for their lives at the moment.

I tend to agree with the previous contributions but would like to make two points. Firstly, we may have had much of the play in the first half but I don't think that any of our efforts on goal were actually on target. Secondly, our forwards simply cannot seem to beat the opposition 'keepers in one-on-one situations. Can anyone recall the last time a Fleet striker rounded a 'keeper and scored or even shot around or underneath him to score?

Extremely good point kmj..... Both Akinde and Moore were guilty on more than one occasion last night and indeed over the season... though i think moore did slot it past the keeper for his goal?? it is said to be harder when you have time to think... but sometimes we hit it too softly... if in doubt smash it and give the keeper no time.....???!!
