Making Noise at Wembley

Recommended Posts

Have just finished watching Yorkfox's video of his new Fleet song - well done, matey & a special well done to those game ladies singing.

As the self-appointed, self-opinionated orchestrator of all things Fleetly musical, I propose that The Plough End Vocalists, The Halfway Line Choir (You were awesome at the 1st Aldershot game) & the Geek Corner Songsters, as a point of principle, learn the chorus & try it out at our 3 remaining home games:

"Come on Sacha Get em going ,

Anybody wanna buy a kazoo? wink

I wrote to the Stadium officials (i.e. emailed them) and was told in no uncertain terms that no unlicenced musical items were allowed. I think "licenced" items means when there are concerts.

Even tried for football rattles, no go. But you can take a 1 metre stick as long as it's got a piece of cloth on the end. Maybe we can disguise some flutes.

Lennie, Thanks for the kind words about my song. If it catches on I guess is down to fate. Do you remember the middle bit with the twangy guitar ?. I have this image in my head of the song being played at Wembley and thousands of Fleet fans playing Air Guitar in the middle ! :-)

I am just pleased to have got it out onto Youtube as I havent ever done anything like this before. Anything else now will be a bonus.

If anything catches, I think it will be,

"Come on Sacha get em going,

As we walk down Wembley way.

Sorry Yorkfox, I applaud the effort but it doesn't work for me. It is very difficult to create a chant if you are using a new tune, fans won't learn it unless it is played over the tannoy or something.

I have come up with takes on popular songs for new chants, I have borrowed ideas that some others gave in a thread about a month ago but can't remember who it was so can't give them their credit, and I have actually put lyrics to them, so there.....

(To the tune of Stacy's Mom by Fountains of Wayne)

Stacy Long has got it going on,

Goals are all we want and they're scored by Stacy Long,

Stacy can you just,

Score another beauty?

We know it might be wrong,

But we're in love with Stacy Long.

(To the tune of A Kind of Magic by Queen)

One shot, One goal,

One win for the trophy,

No golden goals to win at Wembley.

(One section of crowd) Is this Akinde Magic?

(Everyone) It's Akinde Magic, Magic, MAGIC!

What do you think? smile

Exactly the kind of thing we want - nice & simple & both to well known melodies.

Our main problem is lack of variation. We tend to fall back on "Barmy Army" & forget to try anything else. If we could have 6 or so well rehearsed for the big day, it would be brilliant.

How about reducing Yorkfox's song down to a nice simple chant, where we split in 2 as in your A a Kind of Magic adaptation:

Section 1: Come on Sacha!

Section 2: Get them going!

Repeated ad infinitum ....

Fleet, I have no problem with that. I heard the Beetles on the radio the other day, "All you need is love" , repeated again and again, then "love is all you need" Could change that nicely to "All you need is LONG" , repeated again and again, then "LONG is all you need"

Yep - I reckon something nice & simple like that is just what we want. I'm glad I'm not the only one who hears a song, suddenly thinks that would make a great football chant, then spends hours trying to twist appropriate words into it.

Like I did with Peter Gabriel's Solsbury Hill when it played in the Somerset the other day. I'm sure something can be done with the last 5 lines. Best I could come up with was:

Now we're standing here at Wemb(er)ley
We will know & take our destiny.
Our hearts going boom, boom, boom.
Take that trophy in our hands
We've come to take it home.
