Judo update

Just to let those of you that are interested know, that i have definitely decided to enter the World Judo Masters 2008 in Brussels on the 28th June.

 

There should be a newspaper article about it coming out in Tuesdays Farnborough 'Mail'. 2nd page in i'm led to believe.

 

I've had a bit of interest from people and companys wishing to sponsor me but if you know of or have any connections with companys willing to sponsor me then i'd be very grateful.

 

I've estimated it will cost around

The tournament is paid for, the hotel is booked and the ferry tickets are booked. The training is going well with no injuries and my weight is down from 68.4kgs to 66.5 kgs. I'm fighting at -66kgs.

I fight next Sunday (1st June) in the Salisbury Open, using it as a warm up for the worlds on 28th June.

You would struggle to follow even the pro's on the tv due to it not being very well televised. The olympics is usually only highlights through the BBC and the worlds and europeans again is usually just highlights on eurosport. Sky each year televise the GB world cup (olympic ranking event). But again, just highlights.

 

Judo is a little similar to the FA CUP. Early rounds of the fa cup you will see great goals, lots of goals, cup upsets, giant killing etc etc. The final is normally a close match with quite often only a goal between the 2 teams. Early rounds of the olympics you will see great throws and fantastic Judo and in the final usually a close contest with not much scoring or succesful throws. As the television coverage of Judo is normally just finals and 3rd place fights, you dont see the great Judo of the early rounds. Hence why Judo doesnt get great reviews and consequently not a lot of coverage.

 

And no...you wont see the World Masters on the T.V.

But i will have my contests recorded on camera and if i'm succesful i will post them on here for all to view.

Just an update on todays tournament in Salisbury.

 

I entered the -66kgs Men section plus the -73kgs men section for more fights before the Worlds.

 

I won all my fights by Ippon (10 points, max)in the U73kgs category and took Gold.

I won my first fight in the -66kgs by Ippon and beat the other 2 by Wazari (7 points) and took the Gold.

 

This was last my last tournament before the World Championships and now have 4 weeks of training ahead of me.

 

Attention Gussy:

I came up against your mate Winnie Graham today and beat him by a Wazari to 2 Yukos. Very close fight indeed.

As i have a lot of respect for Winnie, i'm not going to say "i told you so". It was a very close contest and went the distance of 5 mins.

I will post a few piccys on here in the next few days for anyone who wishes to view them.
