Wivenhoe Town 1 Hornchurch 5

A great Easter weekend for Hornchurch supporters - 6 points, 11 goals and a couple of great footballing displays.

Today we carried on from where we left off on Saturday with Wivenhoe never really in it. Garry Kimble opened the scoring on 25 minutes with an 18 yard free kick which blurred into the net. The second came 5 minutes later from a Kimble corner which was nodded down towards goal by Vinnie John and deflected into the net by Andrew Martin from inside the 6 yard area. Wivenhoe pulled a goal back in the 43rd minute with a header from the corner which the linesman adjudged to have crossed the line before Scott Gooding managed to clear. Our 2 goal margin was restored in first half injury time though, when from a purposeful run Kevin Jopson toed the ball into the penalty area where Andrew Martin, via a deflection off a defender, flicked the ball on for Vinnie John who tidied up from 8 yards.

An early second half goal for us would have sealed it but we got two. The first came on 48 minutes from a superbly taken free kick from 25 yards by Andrew Martin which keeper Matt Greenley threw himself at but had no chance of stopping. 6 minutes later and Martin completed his hat-trick, heading in unchallenged from 6 yards from a Kimble cross. To their credit Wivenhoe didn't give up but it was another quiet afternoon for Micheal Collier.

Line-up: Collier, Marsden, Kimble, Gooding, Jopson, Moore, McGowan (Fox 65), Cowley, Martin (Jones 69), John (Cripps 79), Lowery. Sub not used: Wood (GK)

Great performance yet again has set us up with the chance to clinch promotion on our own turf. Now that would be great!! Hopefully there will be a big crowd on Saturday to cheer the boys on to the Premier. As it is the last home game they deserve the best send off possible.

We have a lot of strenght in depth too. There will a lot of competition for places next season. Barrie Fox looked good when he came on. I think that he is a class act.

Foxy played some wicked passes though. Remember he is still not 100%. Not sure where Locke was....yet again. Its a shame because he is a good player. Not sure we need him now though!!
