In an entertaining game which Margate dominated for long periods, they did what the first team were unable to do and that was score past Shaun Alliston, though he did keep Ramsgate in the game for a while with some fine saves, Margate coming away with a 3-0 win.

 

Roberto Corbishley, who had a fine game especially attacking down the flank, had the first chance when his backheader went just wide of the right post in the 8th minute. Aaron Quain then hit a fierce shot but saw it go wide of the left post. Stuart King then showed his skills when he hit a shot from edge of area but Matt Lamprell threw himself to his right to parry it away with Shannon McNamee then clearing it from danger.

 

In the 28th minute a through ball fell to Kenny Pratt who saw Alliston coming off his line and tried to lob him, Alliston got a hand to it but top scorer Joe Taylor came in and gratefully slotted the ball in from close range. King then hadanother chance for Ramsgate but this time fired his shot over the bar. Taylor then had a great chance in the 37th minute but his shot, tho well struck, was saved well by Alliston.

 

Kenny Pratt made an excellent run from the right and hit a powerful shot which rippled the net but unfortunately only the side netting. Another through ball then found Joe Taylor but his shot was once again well saved by Alliston. Then on the stroke of halftime Quain hit a great shot from 25 yards but Alliston saved well tipping it over the bar.

 

Corbishley started the second half with a great run on the right powering into the area but Alliston smothered well at his feet just as he was about to shoot. In the 49th minute Pratt found himself clear on goal but just as he shot Alliston caught him slightly and the ref had no hesitation in awarding a penalty. Nick Moir stepped up and blasted the ball over the bar.

 

Elliott Payne, who had been causing problems with his left foot crosses all evening, went on a run on the left in the 65th minute and put a dangerous low cross across goal which Sam Baker tried to clear but could only put it into his own net to put Margate 2 up. Two minutes later Lamprell saved well after a goalmouth scramble. Taylor then went on a run on left and found Pratt in the middle but Baker managed to get a clearance in just as Pratt was about to get a shot in.

 

Quain went on another run and also crossed into the danger area which Simon Moore nearly put into his own goal but must have been relieved to see it just go wide. Then in the 83rd minute Taylor capped off a fine performance by latching onto a through ball, rounding Alliston, and firing into the net to put his side 3 up. King then had a chance to reduce the arrears but once again his shot was saved well by Lamprell, who looked assured in the Margate goal all game. Pratt had the last chance of the game when he broke through but his shot was saved at point blank range by Alliston.

And an excellent view of up and coming players for the first team IMO, only slightly biased towards Eliott Payne as he is a chip of the old block, and would be a great contender for player of the year .

Cheers BlueGate Alan, good report, 57 in att,not bad for a reserves game, considering the prima donna's of that other premiership were on the the tele, i be at the return leg on the 22nd at southwood,even if the result is not importantant to our side,it beats tele anyday
