Where are they now? - a response!

Hello to one and all

Following GHA's curiosity as to my whereabouts; I have been following the Saints' progress from a far. I've been playing for my local team, Knebworth, and after topping the table for much of the season we have finished in third place, very dissappointing. Sparing a disaster, we will be playing in the Herts County League next season.

I have missed CP. I have not voted for my player of the season or goal of the season, that would not be fair as I have missed so much of the season - however Robbie Smith's free-kick against Canvey was an amazing moment.

As the Saints were on the attack, the York Road End singing Hey Jude and a free-kick is given on the edge of the box. Still singing while the ball is placed and the 'shhh' begins on Rob's run up. As he strikes the ball, the silence is deafening. The ball defies the laws of physics and finds it's way around the Canvey wall, rocketing into the bottom right hand corner of the goal as we look at it from the York Road terrace. And the crowd errupts, singing and dancing, waving shirts in the air and basking in the electrifying moment. Magic. Pure magic.

I intend to be there on Wednesday for the match against Hendon, see you all then!

LSoK. It's been a while, hasn't it? Mmmm. Nice.

Yes. Unfortunately, due to ill-conceived planning on my point meant that my plane journey home from Eire landed at 11.00pm on the day of the Canvey game, and so I was unable to attend. I have heard how the goal was fantastic. However, seeing as you weren't there on Saturday (were you?), and for the benefit of anyone else that wasn't, I feel that Dominic Naylor's free kick should be talked about.

It's almost 20 minutes into the first half. City have started fairly lively, but still you think that Aldershot are the better team. Unfortunately at this stage of the season the Saints don't have much left to play for, and so have not filled or even half-filled the East Bank terrace like they usually do. None-the-less, the boys that were there are singing their hearts out for the lads. The referee kindly gives us a decision (one of the few of the afternoon), for what I believe to be a trip on Jon Challinor. The ball is 20 yards out, to the right hand side of the D on the edge of the area. Dominic Naylor steps up, with his trusted left foot. He lines the ball up, and begins his run up. Everyone is hushed. He hits it sweetly, oh so sweetly, and the ball takes off. Not bothering with the wall, Naylor has gone for the top far corner. In my mind, everything goes into slow motion. I manage to think 'it's in, no it isn't, wait, yes it is' in the space of a second. For a milisecond my view is obstructed by a pillar holding up the stand, but still I can see the Aldershot keeper fling himself up to his right. It's to no avail. The ball flies into the top corner of the net, and we go mental. The bright spot on a disappointing afternoon. As someone said somewhere else, in a 5-1 loss at least we got the first goal.

I could write-up Brownie's header at Stockport, or Simon Martin's goal against Hendon when we had just returned from our suspension, for nostalgia and more goosebumps, but I'll wait if I'll bother. Surprisingly, a good number of EFM missed both those goals, due to being thrown out (at Stockport) or still in the bar (at Hendon, it was just after the second half had kicked off) and both times me and Hooded Man went mental.

Quality.

LSoK. Don't be late.
