Aldershot Tuesday night - big crowd?

Recommended Posts

Think they need to win an Torquay loose or draw. But in reality how many of the Aldershot support will miss this game if there is a chance they can be promoted.

I saw something at Aldershot that proved to me how much the fleet mean to those who have been following for donkeys years and I am sure there are many at Aldershot who have been there since before it all went pear shape. It will be their big day out , and if we dont get a draw or win then good luck to them and enjoy the day , If we do get the win then have a great Saturday next week.

It's a difficult quandary for me. On the one hand, such an effort can only be commended, but the trend of supporting clubs other than one's local side is still a regretful one in my view. Obviously, for those from other countries where the non-league system that we know is absent, this can be a trickier issue. But it's the origin of supportership that concerns me - it's all still so unfathomable to me. As Jeff has pointed out in another context elsewhere, MyFC members with no previous allegiance to the Fleet are only supporting us because that's the club MyFC took over - it's pure chance. Where's the deep-down, ingrained emotional connection when you take away local pride, compared to any other non-league side from anywhere else in the country?

Wrong. There has never been any rivalry between us and Aldershot. Since they became a non-league club, they've always had a larger following. Because of where they're sited and because of their history. When we were both in the Ryman Premier, they were what some clubs wanted to aspire to, they were the big club in th league. Aldershot are no more our rivals than say, Torquay Utd or Northwich Victoria, just another team to beat. Our history shows that our rivals have always been Margate, Dartford and more recently, but for no obvious reason Canvey Island.

Hope we win on Tuesday, alas I won't be there (work miles away) so I am kind of hoping Turkey win, and I can witness our return/arrival in the league on Sat against Burton. I see it as a return as saw them prior to 1992. Same ground, Same colours and much the same support...

Am confident we can get a result from your ground providing that dodgy ref/lino doesn't turn up again from the cup 1st leg. smile

Wishing your genuine fans, Good luck and Enjoyment the Wembley day out in the Trophy.

Were you actually there ? The first pen was outside the box, and in my view the second was a dive with no contact.

However I will admit you were the better team over both the two legs and deserved to progress.

Will confess this was one of very few games i was unable to attend due to work. But my point being was when ever we beat a bigger club we always get put down, excuses always range from cheating ref, long ball game, bullies, bad pitch...lol you name it weve herd it. but it was nice of you to say we actually deserved it.If you dont do it tue night, then it should be some atmoshere at your place saturday

Still sucking on the sour grapes then ?

Wasn't GW quoted as saying that he and your assistant manager could have defended better in the first half at San Stonebridge, hence the substitutions ?

You even had another game to play a bit better in.......

That's life Esther !!

Cheers,

Did you not see the line about deserving to go through?

Besides, I don't think many of us are that sour about it.

Football League or a day out at Wembley?

Football League every time for us.
