michael
Question: What specifically does Mr T intend to do between now and next season to ensure the defence is so much more co-ordinated (i don't expect names-but does he recognise the need to sign others, coach better-and why after 10 months of it not working or improving this season-should we have confidence that it will be better next season

But for me blaming the defence for all shortcomings is wrong. Players in midfield need to close down opponents quicker, the times ive seen them the midfield has looked quite capable but a bit slow at times. Some of the better players have clearly seen better days be good to see more younger players come through. And to give RT credit he does seem to recognise this. Coffin Ender
Last season was when we really screwed up. Sixth (having been league leaders in the New Year) was a poor finish. In the summer we lost our 40-goal striker (for reasons that were not RT's fault) and had to contend with the winding up order (which could only have had a negative impact on our plans for this season). We'll probably finish top ten, which, while not brilliant, is hardly grounds for dismissal either.
BlueGate Alan
CE. As I have pointed out before hardly anyone, if indeed anyone did, expected us too make playoffs this season. Who would be a manager ehh!
michael
RAYW has got valid poiont that defence does start in midfield(which is why i thought DS as a more defensive midfield player was a key player-so yes-central(defensive)midfield needs strengthening but when you read that two weeks on the trott, that defenders ball watch and leave it to each other-and do not attack the ball at defensive free kicks and corners-the defence needs seriously sorting aswell. Coffin Ender
Just to put it in perspective, last season Danny scored 40 out of our 86 goals. That's an almighty Danny Hockton-shaped hole that needed filling. (For the record Pinno scored 17 and the next highest was Jay on....six). In that context a drop of four league places doesn't look bad.
buzzgate
Does he think the lack of discipline off the pitch has led to poor results?
Dutch_Mike
Re: the original post. Let's not kid ourselves. Although we were fantastic going forward (we could have scored eight), defensively we were dreadful (if it wasn't for Scotty, we would have conceded eight!) All four goals were the result of pathetic defending; everyone just seems to wait for everyone else to clear it. Ultimately, the blame has to lie with the manager; if anyone should be taking command of the situation, it should be him. Even if we get nine points from the last three games, we will still fail to make the playoffs and, consequently, the season will have been a failure. BlueGate Alan
And did you expect us to make the play offs pre season Mike, may I ask? I don't remember anyone thinking we would but apologies if you posted that pre season.
Dutch_Mike
Well, in the second prediction league hosted by our very own Cookie, I predicted, I believe, that we would finish 6th, just outside of the playoffs. And, yes, my aspirations were for us to achieve more than a mid-table finish; I anticipated us to be there or thereabouts come the end of the season. buzzgate
I didnt think we would make the playoffs but it has been such an open season we could have had every chance with some decent defenders in particular being the issue. What i would say is that Trotty has been really unlucky with injuries but he should have got some new personnel in defence.I see Young and Smith as the future but an experienced centreback is also needed.Infact I thought Saunders was one of our best centrebacks when he played there. He shouldnt retire he is still performing. michael
I did not expecct to make play-offs-forecasted 7th or 8th;and i do not regard season as a failure. What has really upset me is lack of defensive progress since May last year-nothing has changed in 10 months;and i feel the supporters deserve better than to see a semi-professional team and coaching/management staff, who take a small salary; make the same elementary errors week in week;which if you were a manager-you would not accept from 16 year olds or your local pub side . Someone has to take responsibility for those continued and consistent failings to improve things just a little bit;and provide confidence that things will improve;and appreciative that one is for the manager sharing his views post game with wellsie-it would be nice to hear something different from RT apart from 'shocking defending again'. blueblood
After welsh bobs post on page 2, I am sure he will be man enough to introduce himself personaly to Peter at the Folkestone game and repeat his post. face to face.
BlueGate Alan
I too predicted 7th place and, yes am disappointed we won't make play offs but to blame it all on Trotty seems unfair. Long term injuries, budget cuts, Dean's sacking have certainly not helped IMO. Why Trotty still has my backing, he is still learning but why sack him now when he is gaining more experience. Think of Ferguson at Man Utd, did nothing for a few seasons but Board kept faith in him.
Frankie100
Well I blame the whole season going to pot on the injury to Skins, although maybe I'm biased!!!!
BlueGate Alan
One of my points Frankie plus Young, Yianni, Coleman etc.
