Was a tongue in cheek question!!!! They only merged with Emmbrook to get a footing back out of real park football. Believe they were in lower reaches of Reading Lge at one stage. Another tongue in cheek question, for the none spotters of irony - what's the common denominator here?

Quote:

Midweek away to Bridgewater and away to Fleet.

Not too bad and very winable?

I'd say not OPTIMISTIC but CRACKERS

Why?

Bridgewater may well know if they are in/out of the play-off's by then and Fleet will be in the play-off's and will probably rest a few players as the first leg is the following Tuesday I believe, plus we have beaten them already this season...

Roy Merryweather??????

Its unfair to blame Roy for either, the Council mucked up with the Grounds for both Clubs and both have been forced down the same route

I missed this game so can't really comment but it seems that it was another opportunity for points that we let slip through our grasp.

The thing that concerns me is that I am not sure how we have managed to get ourselves effectively relegated from this league.

On our day we have performed very well against a variety of sides in the league Farnborough, Fleet, Abingdon and AFC Hayes spring to mind but also managed to play awfully against Bracknell, Newport (I am convinced we would have lost that game had they scored the second minute penalty), Paulton and AFC Hayes to name but a few.

I don't think we have lacked quality in a very poor league but we have lacked consistency in terms of team selection and formation. And that is not meant to disrespect any of the teams in this division but the quality of football is not good and everyone seems to be joyously inconsistent yet we simply haven't held our own. Now three managers in a season doesn't help and whilst I can totally understand why the decision was taken to replace Wilko and B&B respectively the turnover of players has been the issue.

But how is it that a club that must have sold the second highest number of season tickets in the league wasn't able to put a settle dside together by the end of say September? There are only four people still at the club who have played more than twenty games this season and that is a massive problem.

I am now resigned to our fate this season - we need a minimum of nine points from the last four games and I suspect we might come close to achieving it but I just think we will fall short.

What is crucial is that we learn our lessons from this season and use the season ticket pot next season wisely to establish a core squad of 16 players that will be the team for the majoirty of the season. It is inevitable that you will add players to it over time due to injury, suspensions and better offers coming in from elsewhere but we cannot afford to now lose the core of a side again and say to Derek rebuild us from scratch.

Personally, I've just jotted down 15 names from the current squad that I think it would be worth retaining and with time and a bit more confidence I actually think they could do a job where ever we are playing next season.

If we are playing at a lower level the minimum expectation should be a title challenge and a decent run in the Vase and that should be the incentive for players to stay, show how good they are and hopefully move up the pyramid.

If we are miraculously reprieved then we need to be looking for mid table stability with maybe a brief late flirtation with the play-offs.

Christ, sorry didn't mean to go on that long. Just seriously depressed at how this season has gone. I remember when strangers had heard of us. Now we are sliding into the abyss.

We played well against Thatcham on Saturday though were somewhat fortunate in my opinion (no one else thought so) to get the penalty.

On balance of possession and good chances we deserved to win.

There were mutterings around Thatcham's ground that they are looking to drop back into the Hellenic League and that this is why their previous manager had quit citing why should he stay at a club with no ambition....... not sure how true all of this is but it's certainly a glimmer of hope for probably you but possibly still us.

Duds, a Thatcham supporter I work with thought the penalty was fortuitous as it was ball to hand rather than the other way round, so that makes 2 of you!

The Unibond league expansion (or lack of) probably provides the best chance for Slough staying up

I think that this is one of the most depressing aspects of this league. There are lots of rumours about teams wanting to drop down a division. I have no knowledge of whether these are true but surely each team should have ambition to survive at the highest possible level.

yeah i cant understand that one either, except its sometimes drop a league or go under and no club at all, there were rumours about taunton and paulton which is hard to understand with taunton having a reasonable fanbase, paulton being a small village you can understand.

You guys are still missing the obvious reason why a club as big as slough are struggling and for two succesive season, support from the board or very lack of it.

One thing with Betsy and Barney they got results from a side they got together from nothing, had no help, no money but still managed to get players that played for the club because they wanted to save the club, not for the brown envelope on a saturday.

Hopefully Derek will get what B+B didn't get or i wouldn't be surprised if he gets the same problems ahead of him as they did.

Anon, don't see how you can blame the current board and previous to that we were owned effectively by Martyn Deaner who paid the players (when he had the cash). If he hadn't been doing this for nigh on 10 years we'd have more quickly reached where we are now.

This club WILL bounce back but as each year goes by without a ground and a sizeable income stream it looks a mighty long haul. I hope it isn't because I really miss the buzz of watching the Rebels at a decent level in our own home.

another has 5 midland clubs from the southern league going into unibond one south and with only Durham wanting promotion and whitley bay being the latest club to say no thanks, the southern league south and west will be short of clubs,it makes sense a few months back newport resigning from the league because they wanted to go into the wessex league and not be forced into staying up.As it has been said, best chance of staying up,would be nice to do it on the field though.
