Slough T vs Oxford C - Line Ups, HT, FT Update

I know it won't be any consolation but you certainly weren't anywhere near as bad as lots of other teams in the division and on another day you would have got at least a point.

We've been where you are - both regarding having no ground of our own and trying to overhaul Bracknell in the Southern League (how do they do it year after year?)

The most important thing is to keep the faith.

I think your being a bit generous to Meddie who gave the ball away twice to gift Oxford the shot on goal.

Hard luck Slough, We've been in your position in the past and it's a horrible place to be.

As i said earlier in the season, the supporters at Slough are a credit to the club in keeping up the vocal support even in desperate times, the programme is personally the best i've read this season.

Roy Gumbs should be a big help in your fight for survival, i earmarked Roy as an excellent centre forward after seeing him in action for Sycob last season, he's exactly what you want from a centre forward, he's hardworking, big, strong and possesses an excellent shot, and he's a really nice chap on top of that.

All the best for the remainder of the campaign

Padz.

The first goal looked like Connor unsighted Carrol by running across him in an attempt to head the ball clear. I wouldn't apportion any blame on Connor or Carrol because as I've already said Meddie needlessly gave the ball away twice in the build up to the shot on goal.

The second goal was a tap in after Connor made an attempted pass back to Carrol when he had no idea where Carrol was.

I thought we did well enough to earn a point but some individuals are not doing the simple things right and are costing us dearly.

I must also add that I thought it was a strange decision to switch our top scorer into a midfield role. Bangura does a lot of running around but when he gets chances Elephants ar*e and banjo spring to mind.

But the same could be said of Terry Davies in recent weeks. He missed a few sitters at Hayes and generally has looked quite ineffective in recent weeks, especially with the long-ball game.

I thought it was well worth trying Terry on the right. When we play with him up front, he invariably drifts out to the wings anyway to deliver crosses, but there's no strikers in the middle. At least this way you have two strikers in the box which gives us chances with the deliveries from Gray and Davies.

IMHO, a good 70% of the games we have lost this season were winnable. That doesnt inspire confidence.

Let's face it, we are now reliant on drop outs and/or mergers in leagues of our level and above as there's little chance of us finishing above 21st! Judging on previous years we could still be safe due to these, but surely not too much to hope of a placing above 21st in the bottom level of "proper" football!

They were only winnable if we took our chances and stopped gifting goals.

But thats probably the story for most teams that get relegated.

The teams that survive are either good at defending or good at attacking and unfortunately we've been bad at both.

down but not out yet ...lets continue to fight and scrap ..Oxford city are 2nd in the league as of tonight !

we maybe clutching at straws ..but until we are unable to mathmatically ...we must continue to have faith ..today we still created chances , we had a good percentage of the match ..so lets really hope for a win next saturday ..just to put an edge to proceedings...yes I am aware that Bracknell can go eights points clear on tuesday ...but we have to beleive ...

come on you rebels ....

we havent been totally outplayed like most relegation candidates but all the tight matches seem to not go our way

we just seem to have no where near enough luck. yes luck isnt everything but every loose ball seems to fall to opponents. deflections rarely go our way. but thats how it goes when your at the wrong end of the table

we let in 2 goals are the worst possible times really. both times we conceded we were the better of the teams. Oxford didnt really create a lot which i guess is a plus but 2 of the worst goals we have conceded this season (theres been a lot of them too) have cost us.

so positives lets look at the positives. Steve Daly coped with their giant striker very well indeed i thought. Connor had a match to forget but he is experienced and he can put this behind him. right to take him off though before it got worse.

was worth moving Davies to the wing i thought. the 2 strikers gave us something to aim for at least. Terry unfortunately has hit indifferent form exactly when we need him at his best. Roy Gumbs was very good. exactly the type of player we wish we could have had all season. was impressed by the work of Bangura too. shame he couldnt take his chances but its not like he did that much wrong with the chances.

gray had the better of saulsbury all match who apart from his recovery skills looked pretty ordinary at times. brown and pritchard couldnt have put in much more effort. was also a good cameo sub appearance by riddell. i thought close to being man of the match had to be Chris Robinson. did a great job especially when we switched to 3 at the back him being 1 of the 3.

these positives dont count for much though when you have so little amount of games left and now even further behind safety despite a decent-ish performance.

gotta cling to that tiny bit of hope that we can still stay up but its getting more and more unlikely unfortunately

This is ganna sound pretty strange, but I think we could still get safe, but a big factor is Bracknell's next two games. If they win Tuesday and Saturday and we lose Saturday then we are down.

However, I think we'll win Saturday and we just have to hope and keep our fingers crossed that Bracknell lose Tuesday and Saturday, which would then see it back in our own hands if we win. Trouble is their two home games are against Taunton and Hillingdon.

Optimistic I know, but if this were to happen I don't think our remaining 4 games are too bad and are very winable.

Bracknell have all the luck at the moment. They seem to win a penalty every game they play at the moment! Plus they have two key players in Neil Baker and Gilbert Nuako missing for the next 3 games suspended. We must hope!

Can't wait for a good run in the FA Vase next season.

i think the vase would be a good cup to be in, real chance of a trip to wembley although there are some top teams in it.
our best chance of avoiding the drop is through not enough teams having the correct ground grading. I heard a rumour that there might not be. also the possibility of re-organising of the divisions etc. The point about the oxford fans who were on here saying it happened to them were right, it seemed a disaster at the time but in the end it was the best thing that happened to them, they won the spartan league i think on goal difference and came back stronger.as long as our crowd doesnt drop too much and we start winning in the spartan, we might even get people back to see a winning team again.
of course better we stay up,but its not the end of the world if we do go down.

Thats based on this factor being ratified by the leagues:

"There will only be one club moving up from the NL, it makes it more difficult to increase the size of the NP1 divisions without transferring teams from the SL1M. There has been some reluctance from the SL clubs to move to the NPL but how about if 5 clubs were to transfer in one go i.e. all those SL1M clubs north of Birmingham. This would have the effect of increasing the NP1s to 2x22 and reprieve the four 21st placed teams in the SL and IL."

Meaning the four 21st placed teams in SL and IL will be reprieved (Horsham YMCA, Slough Town, Wivenhoe Town, Berkhamsted Town).

Thoughts increasingly turn to a local team in Hellenic 1 East. Re-formed at village green level, after being killed off after ground sharing for years. Used to be a force in the Isthmian. Anyone remember what happened to Wokingham Town?!

yeah fingers and everything else crossed too,i cant see us winning our remaining 4 games 6 points is realistic which would mean one win would be enough for bracknell.i fancy them beating taunton tuesday, hillingdon have a cup final to play in and i cant see them putting out a strong side for a fixture which is meaningless for them.
