Heybridge Res 2-0 Concord Res

Recommended Posts

Concord travelled to Scraley Road on the back of 3 victories against higher table opposition, without doubt this was to be a tough game, Heybridge sitting top of the table, having put 9 past Bowers Res previously.

Once again the team included Greg Tiffin, with Ash Knott returning from injury, and Luke Wilson back. There was a new face for the team in John Elmes, a welcome experienced head in the back line, in the continued absence of Sean Stannard.

Heybridge included many players with Ryman Prem experience, most notably striker Mark Reddaway, and 'keeper Jamie Bowyer who is on contract terms with the club.

Heybridge started the brighter of the teams, their passing through midfield was impeccable, particularly the inclusion of the widemen in the play.

It was the hosts who opened the scoring, a ball into the box, which young keeper Jack Sneefe went to claim, but was beaten to it, the header down being knocked in.

Concord went on the offensive, with Jimmy Webb iring wide after good work by Ash Knott, but Heybridge made most of the play, with Concord's midfield working tirelessly.

Half Time 1-0

The second half, Concord started to up the tempo, some good passing moves saw them dominate possesion for periods, whilst Heybridge continued to utilise their pace and skill, Mark Reddaway having a number of chances, which the Concord keeper thwarted on numerous occasions.

Concord lost Ash Knott to injury 10 minutes into the half, being replaced in the centre of midfield by Mike Hood.

A good passing move from Concord's midfield eventually found Greg Tiffin in the box with a great through ball, but his shot was blocked for a corner.

Concord continued to press, but seemed to lack a vital spark in the final third.

Heybridge hit Concord on the break, the winger eventually lobbing the ball across goal for the striker to head home from 3 yards.

To their credit Concord continued to battle, with Jack Speed replacing Jimmy Webb with 20 left.

Following some smart work down the left from Matt Crumbie and Sam Taylor, a left cross came in ,which Brett Cranfield arriving at the far post narrowly missed.

Concord battled hard, and should be proud of their efforts. with 5 games to go, and a 6 pointer against Burnham they have it all to play for, to move up the table and continue their good work ethic and form.
