The hornet's nest

Recommended Posts

For those who don't look at the MyFC cultists quack-quack message boards, you'll be (dis)interested to hear that the threatened postponement of Pick The Team has stirred it up big time. Loads of members of the Silent Majority have posted on the forums for the first time to say they want a refund if PTT isn't implemented asap. This is exactly what I (being ever wise) predicted would happen. There's maybe 500 proper/original EUFC fans in MyFC and maybe a couple of thousand nerdy (mostly American) 'do-gooders', the remaining 25,000-odd are Championship Manager wannabes who ONLY joined to Pick The Team.

Believe you me, there can only be two possible outcomes:

1. PTT is introduced as quickly as possible and the Silent Majority may or may not retain their interest enough to renew and keep MyFC going; or

2. PTT isn't introduced, Will Brooks is taken to court for mis-selling/fruad/whatever, refunds are issued and MyFC closes down.

Whilst many EUFC fans may be rubbing their hands in glee at the thought of Option 2, the reality ain't going to be what you expect. MyFC haven't paid off EUFC's debts, the deal was structured in such a way that very few debts were paid off up front, but instead would be paid over a period of several years. factor in that you are now committed to extended contracts with some players, I really don't think EUFC will be any better off than they were prior to the takeover when MyFC goes belly up.

Sorry, but that's the truth. And I also feel the MyFC membership may start to turn on Liam Daish when they finally notice the club has actually dropped two places (from 8th to 10th) since we were first linked with them. Newcastle managers have been sacked for far far less.

Fine by me. I don't want us to go up (as I have been saying on Charlton message boards all season) 'cause the Premier League is boring. And Pardew will be gone this summer - not because of poor results, but because he's been giving quotes to the press all season blaming the FANS for those poor results. The silly spud-faced goon is as popular as a balloon-bender at a funeral now.

Every word I have used is FACT. It is taken from official MyFC politbureau communiques, forum posts and the league table bit is off of the BBC website. Produce one spec of evidence to contradict anything I have said. You can't. You just swear.

Alan, you are a paid up member of MyFc. If you read the thread debating the proposal on pick the team, you will know that the take from our friend from Billy Smart's is less than honest. The truth is that the most problematical part of the whole MyFC concept for many of us is being debated & may well disappear. I don't see 10s of thousands of geeky people raising Cain over this. It is being conducted through a debate & a democratic vote.

The truth is (imho) that the people on MyFC who can bring something to the Fleet & the existing support are converging. True, the real test will come with renewals next year, but anyone who skews everything now to support their own prejudice only looks as silly as our mate Coco.

I think you were probably at the Aldershot away leg of our finest hour for many, many years - not that far from Winchester. What was your take on the relationship between the originals v MyFCers from that?

Own The Club Pick The Team

This is a very ambiguous tag line. It could be interpretted that MYFC own the club and hence Pick The Team and its is the decision of their board to decide whether to pass team selection to members. If the board decide its not in the best intrest of EUFC to pass this option to the members then there is a chance that the board could be oppossed at the annual agm.

At no point does it say YOU OWN THE CLUB AND YOU PICK THE TEAM.

In the event of a coup by members to enforce team selection , it is my opinion that numbers will not be sufficent to oppose a board member who recommends/advise that team selection not be passed to members exist and in fact that member will probably have a greater share of the voting members in a subsequant challenge.

So in summary it aint going to happen.

In the we there are you claiming to be a Fleet supporter or a part of MyFC whom you deride at every possible opportunity?

Either way, it's an odd usage of the possessive pronoun. You support Charlton (unless you really are an alter ego of my good uncle) have never supported the Fleet & turned bitter against MyFc when they elected not to buy Charlton (like that was ever within the realms of possibility.)

There are far more posts on the pick the team thread which nobody at the Fleet, from Kenny to Liam, would see in the least bit sinister, than those reflecting the mass outcry you describe.

The ring master awaits.

The attention span issue does worry me too, I have to admit & I will be pretty nervous come January/February 2009 to see what happens.

However, whilst "pick the team" is one of the things on which the venture is sold, proportionately very few members have actually used the team selector since its inception - I always do, not because I want to pick the team, but because this extended dry run is supposed to test how it can/cannot be made to work.

Indeed, the very low proporton of people participating in most votes could be seen as a worrying indicator, or just reflect that most people aren't scanning the site all the time. What happens at Wembley, in terms of MyFC turnout & (human nature being what it is) the result could be a big indicator & factor re what will happen come renewal time.

Graham S, why the hell would I want that shower to buy Charlton? For starters, we're valued at 25 million, for seconders MyFC members are divs. If you actually read my posts, you'll see I opposed the takeover of Ebbsfleet as they are a potential rival to Charlton in attracting support from the propsed new Thames Gateway homes. I wanted MyFC to take over a team from up North, preferably from a quaint old mining village with players called Ecklesthwaite and Grimblethorpe. That would have been good. Much better than a side whose best players have always seemed to be ex-Charlton youth team players who weren't good enough to earn a contract at the Valley (Stacy Long, Charlie MacDonald, etc).

To those who don't believe PTT is heavily supported amongst MyFC membership, prepare to be surprised by the result of the current MyFC poll (results not until April 10th though). If more than 25% chose Option 4 ("I don't want to pick the team") I will happily allow this message board to elect a EUFC fan to urinate on my head prior to a match at Stonebridge.

No. I have no interest in watching you at Wembley. Your average gate has gone up a mere 125 since the MyFC link, yet you will probably have 20,000 clowns (half MyFC muppets, half North Kenters who don't even know where Stonebridge Road is) on top of your proper 1,000 and addendum 4,000 dust-down-the-scarves fans at Wembley. Not your fault. Not mine either. In financial terms it would be better if you won as that would excite up the MyFC money teat more, but personally I really don't care, and why should I? Apologies for being honest but honesty seems a scarce attribute in the world of MyFC frown
