York Away

Then why didn't all the other hard northerners come over? Except from half time when they decided it was too wet and retreated back undercover.

As my nice rhyme goes... We thought you were northerners, we were wrong, we were wrong! wink

The sort of victory that the phrase 'ground out' was invented for.

A couple of interesting (or sad, depending on your point of view) facts arising from yesterday's game: it was York's first home league defeat under Colin Walker, apparently; and our defensive record at Bootham Crescent is identically good as ours at the Pirelli - only one goal conceded in four visits.

Picture 10 shows it was a raised arm that deflected the ball, but it does look to be just outside the area.

Some nice pics of our sodden supporters as well!

Picture number 11 is brilliant !! Who is the Fleet fan doing the impression of " The Scream" ? That image has got to appear on the front cover of Fleet Life !

Cheers,

There are a few parodies of the Scream going on there but I guess you mean the bald chap in the black coat?

I have no idea who that is.

Possibly Yorkfox but I am not convinced it is.

Stacey doesn't look too happy considering he has just scored.

The guy in 11 with the Brown coat on is a member called "The Fly". He is a journalist, but seems to be really into the team. I was further to the left as you look. I am on 22 with the coke bottle, Mrs YF to the left of me.

My flag was soaking afterwards, weighed a ton !.

Rubbish game, but a great afternoon,.

The former was from the NLP in this case; the latter (as with most of them) was from my tragically obsessive brain.

Excellent!! Spotted myself on picture 41 whimping out with the majority of the Fleet fans undercover in the seats. Full credit to Scott the drummer, Kenny, Yorkfox and the handful of others who stuck it out all game in monsoon conditions. Not forgetting the convict lino of course. arrr

Few more pictures from todays game.

Fantastic stuff Keith - total admiration for you and Lorraine (I know she went undercover for some of the time) for sticking it out in the light drizzle - hope the flag didn't run! What a great day out - had to rush off afterwards otherwise would have introduced myself - maybe at Wemberlee then!

We worked it out at half time that if we stood at the back, the rain blew over the top of us, so it was much better than in the 1st half. The flag survived very well, it was a good test. We were expecting a printed flag, but it is letters stiched on. A few hours hanging up in the bathroom, and it was as good as new. Next stop for it is Halifax.

I am a bit surprised (because of embarrassment?) that no one has mentioned the surprising and enthusiastic singing from a group of new away supporters (sitting incidentally with the man who was ejected from the Northwich game)of a Gary Glitter song. As my son observed to me at the time "It's not every day you hear a song sung in a football ground that was recorded by a convicted paedophile".

Yet another slur on our reputation at away grounds. Do these people have no shame? Think before you chant. Please drop this now!

That song aside, I thought their singing was very good, even if it was in a northern accent which sounded weird.

This was the first time I have seen the northern MyFC contigent.

It seemed to me that the football was just about equal in importance with the drinking.

We noted that one of the Northerners was the moron who ran onto the pitch at Northwich. He was greeted by his fellow MyFcers as a 'legend'. The same group seemed more interested in the linesman than the game.

This explains my standing in the rain.

Sorry you felt the need to stand in the rain Bernard. I have to admit to not being an 'original' Fleet fan but neither am I a Northerner. I have been to see the Fleet play at Stonebridge Road and the welcome from the locals was fantastic. York was my first away trip and I took my brother in law who had hardly heard of the Fleet before Saturday. We thought that the support from those in the seats along with poor old Scott, Kenny and friends getting soaked in the open was excellent. The singing support throughout the game from the 'northern' MyFCers and those around them was to their credit, and the banter with the lino was just a bit of fun. If all you want to do at a match is be miserable and get wet then that's up to you but there are others out there who want to enjoy the whole experience. The attitude of the lino just added to the atmosphere -full marks to an official with a bit of character. I just hope the level of support is as good at Wembley as my family are out to enjoy the whole experience and my brother in law is now thinking of joining us on May 10th.

Cheer Cheer ............
