Refs need more RESPECT

Recommended Posts

I think the refs need to have more support from the league and county FA's. We have had some shockers this season and where are the assessors to point out their mistakes? I know they cannot be at every game, but I dont think I have seen one assessor this season. Terrible decisions are being made and obviously the referees dont like players and management staff telling them so

I tell you what TC that is some really crap from you there. Most of you do not understand what assessors do and what they look for. There are not enough officials at this level so why on earth do you think there will be enough assessors. You get the level of referee for the level you are playing. I look forward to the day that players accept referees calling them fecking kents when they miss an open goal. As I always say it is a two way thing and you show the typical "It is always the refs fault" attitude.

Yep that is a bite smile

Here is an example of the problem that is endemic in our game.

This is a match report from an U9 game which was officiated by a 14 year old

"Although it was freezing it was obvious the ref didnt want to be there as we played a 19 minute first half. And in the second the home side decided to swap goalkeepers which took 6 minutes with everyone frozen solid (not the best idea) yet only 2 minutes was added on"

I will leave you to guess which team won the match. So his players will read that and as their coach is able to have a go at the ref they will think they are too.

Calm down Krooner. I know there are not enough referees and I know that assessors cannot be at everygame which I said in my previous post. All I was saying that some guys we have are not up to it, but guidance from senior officials (as that what assessors are) would help. I remember when I used to line on the old Chiltonian league and although I did not do many games, I would be guaranteed to see an assessor at least three times a season.

There is only one way that language directed at the officials can be curbed and that is for the appropriate action to be taken, and if that means 4/5 dismassals per game, then so be it. It will soon sort it out.

There is a problem from Grassroots to Premier and for Arsene Wenger to say there is not is wrong.

On a personal note, you will find that I very rarely swear at referees, if at all. I may shout and scream, but not swear. A 35 day lay off teaches you certain things!

you have answered your own questions TC. There are not enough referees which is why you do get some guys not up to it. I like to think I am up to it but I bet you will find plenty I have officiated that do not think that. Most of these views are based on one or two decisions the official gives in a match and rarely on 90 minutes. As I said above there are not enough refs so how the hell are there ever going to be enough assessors. I agree with your point about curbing it but I tell you know if that happenned there would be an uproar about Refs ruining the games. I sent someone off the other week for using abusive language at me over a free kick in the centre circle in the last minute of the game. The reaction of one of his fellow players was "You need to be more thick skinned than that Ref" What is needed is discipline to come through from the moment a boy starts playing football. The example I gave above is why it isnt at the moment. the only way you will stop it at the top level is by docking points but will that happen. No because the Big 4 are too powerful. To be fair knowing what you are like I can imagine you being sensible enough on the touchline and I am scared to think that even SL has calmed down.

I think that the CCL should do a Refs roadshow to the clubs and let players and officials chat to each other in a much more relaxed atmosphere. What do you think of that ?

think that refs getting closer to players is a good thing maybe not a road show i sense a sort of them and us attitude from quite a few i also think that the C C L policy of no standing in the dugouts is stupid why put this onus on the officials

some dont care but others thrive at the power if this policy is to remain then instead of having stands installed that never get used maybe dugouts that you can see the game from and all fit in

should become the norm

Roland I agree. The rules of the league are set by the clubs so hopefully one or 2 of them have proposed a change for next season.

The kids, even at that age are a nightmare, and as for the parents....

I did an U9 game the other week and had 3 instances of dissent from the players. Told them all in no uncertain terms that it is not acceptable to be doing that. Had a parent from the otehr team come up to me at the end and say how pleased he was that I had done that.
