Maurice Norman

Recommended Posts

Just watched the Kent TV interview with Roly and noticed the 'Maurice Norman Lounge' sign. Can anyone tell me what the link between Maurice Norman and The Fleet is/was or is it a different Maurice Norman than the one who played for Norwich City and Spurs in the I950s/60s? (Or am I just being a dim new boy?)

Thanks for that Stu - I thought it must have been a different one - just me looking for spurious links between Norwich City and the Fleet. On that note, some time ago I noticed mention of Cedric Anselin on the Pat Gradley thread - any idea as to what link the erstwhile Gallic charmer has to the Fleet?

A Fleet legend no less. Twenty minutes of swashbuckling, UEFA Cup-winning, Gallic skill and flair all condensed into a small chunk of the second half. It was like watching Pele's entire career at x100 speed.

Then he buggered off to East Anglia. I was heartbroken.

Lord H - Paul Gibbs was another who shared the Norwich and Fleet colours. He had a massive tantrum live on TV after getting sent off against Notts County and then left for "better clubs" which included Canvey, Weymouth and the mighty Diss Town.

Jeff - I believe you mean Amade Chababe? He was Steve Sullivan's favourite ever Fleet player.

This should help

Thanks for the great info from Flown From The Nest. Didn't know that Adrian Pennock had played for the Fleet. Saw Paul Gibbs when he played in the FA Vase Final for Diss Town, alongside Matthew Upson and ex-Norwich Milk Cup Winner (now jailbird) Peter Mendham!

Ali Dia, a legend around here.

He was signed by Souness on the recommendation of a dubious agent who claimed Dia was George Weah's brother.

Came on as a second half sub, nearly scored a minute later and was subbed in about the 80th minute.

never heard of again.

He made Balbir Beila look world class.
