Next season!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Okay so no matter what division we are in next season there is an underlying problem of funding, cant we along with beaconsfield try to get a couple of games each in pre season that would bring in crowds???

Reading? Chelsea? Brentford?............i mean even the reserves of clubs like this would bring in a crowd and then the two clubs i.e. beaconsfield and slough can share the gate receipts received from these games 50:50 allowing both clubs to profit from it.

What do you think? Management is it possible???????

A good idea in theory Mark, but most professional sides already have their pre-seasons booked well in advance, so even asking now may be too late. Plus apart from maybe Chelsea what supporters are going to pay to watch a Reading, Watford or Brentford reserves/youth side? Also these teams would require a fee to come which would take a big chunk of any profit especially if we need to pay half of it to Beaconsfield. So without sounding too negative it's something that has been looked at in the past but hasn't happened for some of the reasons above.

You have to remember in the 90's we were a decent Conference side and a more attractive opposition, plus we had our own ground and no doubt more money! A Premiership or Football League side aren't interested in playing a club as low down the pyramid as us as it's no benefit to them playing wise.

Glen's right and there is the question of the pitch. To get a side like that along you need to be playing on a carpet so as to reduce the risk of injuries and to best replicate the conditions they will be playing on week in week out.

I can't see any of the big clubs wanting to play a friendly against us either, whether we go down or not.

The crucial thing for this coming pre season is a settled squad throughout all the games and then going into the new season. We had serious issues with the squad during the last one so we had no continuity going into this season.

that is a good idea amber rebel. Also i have a mate that supports FC United and he says that we should get them to come down when they play AFC Wimbledon, he can get information if anyone is interested.

This lead me to think, what about Wimbledon?, Dartford etc.

hi mark.. having seen the above posts , sometimes its better to play a high non league side, if we play a pro club ..I think we have to supply police and I am 100 % sure the bar will not be able to open...

so all in all a difficult one to call...

but never say never....

well as terry brown is an ex rebel and hes very approachable in helping out clubs/people, think its a great idea, also fc united are very fans orientated and would help im sure if they were approached. on the idea about the supporters match,it could be a fun day, get lots of family and friends to turn up for that moement of glory of playing the rebels,

lots of subs though

My only concern would be whether there would be enough supporters willing to take part...Poor Martin struggles to get a basic eleven to play for the supporters team even when they're not required to pay anything, so it might be difficult to encourage enough supporters to pay sponsorship in order to pull on the shirt for a supporters team.

I'm not knocking the idea, I think it's a good one, just making you aware of a potential problem.

Actually, what about an Old Boys vs New Rebels game? We might encourage a few fans from the glory days back then, as well as giving us a look at the younger squad pre-season. There's got to be enough ex-Rebels around to make a first XI hasn't there?
