Hornchurch 6 Wembley 0

Today we saw a superb 45 minutes in which we scored 5 goals to put us well on the way to another 3 points.

Wembley keeper Grant Hamilton made a good save from Andrew Martin in the opening minutes but from there his afternoon got worse and worse. One suspects that privately he was quite relieved after being stretchered off just before half time.

Our first goal came in the 18th minute, Andrew Martin being put through by Nick Lowery and going on to slot the ball under the advancing keeper. The second came 8 minutes later when a diagonal pass from Nick Lowery looked an easy take for Hamilton but he fumbled it and Vinnie John pounced to nick the ball and score into the empty net. Gavin McGowan made it 3-0 on 29 minutes with a superb strike from 20 yards out which screamed in over the keeper. With 5 minutes to go before half time we scored our 4th. A Garry Kimble free kick was headed down towards the far post by Jamie Southon where Andrew Martin was on hand to volley home. Hamilton's misery was almost complete when he tipped an attempted clearance from Ian Bates onto the crossbar, but as he fell backwards the ball was met by the head of Vinnie John who was in the right place again.

Ironically it was Bates who took over between the sticks for Wembley and he actually did quite well although our performance was much subdued in the second half and he was rarely tested. A good save from another well struck effort from Gavin McGowan was about all he had to warm his hands in the first half hour, but could do nothing to stop Steve Jones from making it 6-0 with just under quarter of an hour to go. He fared better with 5 minutes to go when he saved well from another Jones effort.

Line-up: Collier, Gooding, Kimble, Jopson, Moore, Marsden, Southon, McGowan (Fox 72), Martin (Jones 75), John, Lowery (Cowley 68). Subs not used: Cripps, Wood (GK).

Great result and performance from the lads, and that goal scoring glut has helped our goal difference no end. 11 goals in two home games, not bad going! To be fair, they were poor, really poor, but you still have to beat them.

Now though, on to Monday and Wivenhoe. We simply cannot afford any slip ups, Hemel and Slough are both breathing right down our necks. Just been looking at their run-in's.

Hemel - Berkhamsted Home, Barking away and Northwood home

Slough - Yeading home, Wembley home and Berkhamsted away.

Obviously a harder task for Hemel, but Slough you have got to fancy to beat both Yeading and Wembley at home. But we're in the best position and are there to be caught, just carry on winning and we will be home and dry.

What a performance yesterday. True, the opposition were very poor but we just showed that we are in an entirely different class, hopefully that being in the Premier next year. We could still even pip Northwood for the title but I'll settle for second after a roller coaster of a season. Special mention to there stand in keeper. He was class!! Mr Marsden, if you read this, sign him up!! Alternatively Mr Roeder, if you read this, get West Ham to sign him up. I'm sure he would prefer Hornchurch though.

Whaddaya reckon Tony??

Never really tested their stand in keeper much second half. To be fair, when you are 5 up by half time its natural to take your feet off the gas.

Personally speaking I'm surprised that Mick has dropped Woodsy. I'm not knocking or questioning the ability of Collier, but I would have thought that at this stage of the season experience counts, something Woodsy has? But as with Tuesday night, Collier wasn't really tested to any great extent yesterday. Also, I'd like to see Cowley starting, again though I'm not knocking anyone one in the team, just feel Danny is one of our best midfielders at the club and I my view should get a start in the team. Can I just mention again the affect Vinny John has made on the team. Without doubt, for my money one a Mick's best signings. What a player, co-incidence maybe, but since he joined with have been on quite some run! Well done Vinny, keep it up!

I think Collier deserves a go in my view. I mean Woodsy is a decent keeper and has certainly had his moments this season. He is still lacking in confidence though and has looked a little suspect in his last few games. Yeah Vinny looks a class act. The good thing is that we also know he will score goals at a higher level like he did for Stortford.

good positive views, vinnie is a good partner for taff and it makes sense not to break them up, when the jones boy gets in, he'll do the business for us and football has a habit of turning things around,

jonah wil be back but he knows its right to keep the taff/vinnie partnership going, much as he wants to play,

he plays for the club, thats the diffference, not for himself,

woodie has been a bit unlucky in my opinion but really

he has brought it on himself, when he's got in he's looked shaky, pity but this is no time for sentiment, he'll be back, at the moment collier looks by far the steadier of the two.

onwards to wivenhowe and agian when you look at slough and hemels ties, we just have to win, do what we didi yesterday, fly at them from the off.,

As Usual the Great Urchino Joins a coversation late!

A Good Win against a poor side!

Notes To Wembley

Welcome anytime a good bunch of lads in your team!

You play an Intressting offside trap ie.... any pass which is made sees calls for offside....hehe

Your Goalkeeper tell him to (A) keep away from the Burger stand and ( B) Keep away from the ground as Your Defender who went in Goal did you proud ( play him against Pennant and you might not lose!)

As For Woodsy im sorry i cant agree that he looked shakey! however we have 3 top quality keepers at the club and whichever one plays on the day im happy with!

As 4 The 3 Strikers i would probbally keep the same 2 up Front Taff and Vin but The Crazy Amigo Jonah knows he will get his chance and i would bet on him taking it!!

Now to Wivenhoe ! Odds On they sit back and defend we have to totally put them under the cosh!

Come On The Urchins

I can sniff the Premiership allready

Lord, been doing some digging, on the experience bit regarding the custodians in goal, like you i'm interested, although i'm impressed with what i've seen of Collier. I believe he has won the Essex Senior League with Saffron Walden whilst being part of the Bishop Stortford squad which gained promotion from this league last season. Hope this helps..

Well done Historian for that information. Can't knock Collier, hasn't really put a foot wrong in his three games, although, to be fair, he hasn't really been fully tested in those games! I just thought it strange that Woodsy, who'd been sitting on the bench whilst Kharine had been playing in the goal, was dropped after playing just three games and conceeding only one goal? I was at the Leyton Pennant and Wingate games and seem to recall him pulling off a number of top class saves! Just goes to show what a strong squad we have.
