Good turnout, lots of noise, but you really pi$$ed me off. Not for making noise, or being convinced the ref was against you, despite the fact he spent half an hour after the sending off giving you every decision going. We're all the same in that respect.

However, if I ever travel to an away ground & Fleet supporters sing at the top of their voices, "Sh*t ground, sh*t fans," I will walk away from a team I have followed for over 35 years. Why the gratuitous insult? And no it is not just part & parcel of "normal banter." Aldershot & Exeter always bring big, noisy support & both have one or two hangers on who like to be provocative, but never have I heard them, in unison, throwing either ignorant or arrogant insults at us as supporters, like you lot were last night. "Sh*t ground, no noise," may sometimes (though not last night) be a rather brutally direct description of the truth at our evening matches & that I can take - but "sh*t fans?" WTF was all that about?

It made me glad your goalie was sent off, the indisputable reason you got nothing from the game & it makes me hope your season ends in crushing disappointment. Most opposing fans I can identify with & wish them well in their own ambitions - but you lot need to learn that you don't get any respect until you grow up enough to show it.

Wasn't there last night, but am about to watch it on Sultana. Seemed a good victory in spite of an apparently easily swayed ref. I shall watch the ref closely after the sending off - I hope Cambridge do too.

Hopefully, they will stay down, and we will be a vastly better side mext year and push them out of any play off spots.

I watched it live on Setanta (Sultana) last night as there wasn't room for me in the gantry of course. smile

Listen out for a couple of classic Paul Parker gaffes (unless they edit them out of the re-run).
Something about 'Cambridge are playing with 10 men less', then later on calling Raphael Nade 'Raphael Meade' ! (A bit-part Arsenal forward from the 80's).

Sh*t local following- Yes. 1388 attendance, with roughly 400 away fans, means barely 1000 home fans compared to Cambridge's usual 3000. If this was what they were mocking, then maybe their insults would be better directed at the 99,000 in the borough who DON'T go and see the team on a night when it could just have easily been seen on TV.

Surely the 1000 who turned up are those who are actually showing the devotion? How many of the 1000 have done something to support the club recently? I think the vast majority have spent money in the club shop, travelled away, made some noise, given a helping hand in the programme hut, or something else which would make them anything but sh*t fans. Fair play to Cambridge, I dream of taking 400 to their place some day and making the level of noise they do, but there was no need to disrespect the loyal few of Gravesham who bothered to go and see their team.

I wouldn't bother about it Graham....best way to shut people up is to win the game, which we did ! Whilst I was in the pub drinking lovely cold pints, they were still making their way home, still whinging no doubt. That's the way the cookie crumbles Brian.

We'll see them again next year.....hopefully they will bring more fans next season and make us more money !

Torquay will win the Playoffs and we will win the Trophy !! Everyone's a winner !!

Cheers,

I am just glad I haven't heard it, because I wouldn't be able to keep my mouth shut, any more then I can when our own practitioners of the onanistic arts insist on chanting, "Die, die, die!" when one of the opposition might well be seriously injured. No it's not banter. Without the other teams & their supporters there would be nothing for us to watch & enjoy.

I'm all for robust vocal interaction but chanting that another team's supporters are "sh*t fans" is not that - it's the kind of mindless stuff that keeps lots of people away from football grounds. What one or two total pratheads think & say doesn't bother me; I've taken plenty of abuse & threats from individuals & small groups of pillocks over the years, claiming to support a particular club & I have shrugged it off. But when it's sung in unison so the whole ground can hear it, it associates the whole support in its message.

I don't think Cambridge have "sh*t fans" but I think the majority have been cowardly in allowing this song to be sung as if they all think it's ok. It's not. They are not all ignorant meatheads, so why do they allow those who are to speak on behalf of all of them?

I did a quick chorus of "sh*t ground, sh*t bogs" at Aldershot the other week.

Cheers,
