Ron Clear

I remember Ron, he used to sit bottom-right in the main stand and was ever-present, such a top bloke. I think Graham S has recently, either on here or on MyFC, written an article about how Aldershot last week brought him to remembering Fleet fans close to him who have passed on; this reminded me of Ron. I think he would have loved to see us at Wembley, and both of the Saturdays gone would have delighted him, from his seat selling admission tickets next to the stairs.

Is he related ?
Does Northfleet / School still exist or is it all Ebbsfleet now ?

Hmmm, mum says he probably didn't teach at Northfleet boys. Strange, because he is a teacher and did teach a bit of PE but mainly French and German at Gravesend Grammar School for Boys until about 2002.

If he was fairly young it could have been him. An early job or something. If so, then yes he Ron's second cousin as well!

Got him, I was at Gravesend Grammar from 1975 to 1980. Blond hair and used to teach cricket as well as languages.
The other "Clear' at Northfleet must have had a different christen name.
The old mind playing tricks !!!

And he guided me to my GCSE "A" in German!

I remember Ron, not only from his time at The Fleet where he used to collect my stand entrance money. I also remember seeing him over at Northfleet Rec when I refereed on the local leagues, he always had time for a chat at half time and after the game.

I was disappointed that, after his death, the planned minute's silence for him didn't go ahead because Northwich arrived late at the first game of the following season.

He was a lovely bloke.

I was at this game. It was my first as a proper Fleet supporter. I went to other games before this but this is when I decided to go on a regular basis.

This is a fantastic thread, Wembley will be for people like Ron.

Geordio used to scare the sh*t out of me as a lad. Aged about 10 or 11 I used to stand against the old fence on the Halfway Line and he used to come and offer me sweets and speak in some alien language with an awful breath.

Years later, one Boxing Day, he died waiting for the bus to Chelmsford which if I remember correctly drove straight past.By then we'd got the hang of his language.

How about Nigel, another legend. I will always remember him standing in the pouring rain behind the goal at Newport IOW when everyone else had legged it round to the bicycle stand along the side when the storm started. This was the year we got promoted out of the Southern Division and Portway was dropped for the game. That's another story !
