We used to stand in the centre of the shelf in line with where the cover ended. There were many charecters, many of whom we had nicknames for:

 

There was Ricky Villa lookalike man

The University mob, who always hated the referee and Catholics. Theyb had a Geordie guy with a beard in there mob who always wanted to fight everyone.
