Supporting the Royalists through thick and thin

Yes I would. I remember the early 90's when the club nearly went to the wall. We got relegated from the Ryman Premier all the way down to Ryman Division 3 in consecutive seasons. It was soul destroying to see a once proud club getting tonked by the likes of Flackwell Heath and Egham Town (no disrespect intended).

Thankfully Peter Simpson & Kevin Stott with the help of Alan Davies (manager) reversed the clubs fortunes. We only spent one season in Division 3 but what a season it was. Although we've enjoyed a couple of promotions since then (hopefully another this year) I have to say that was my favourite season following the Royalists.

It was certainly a very satisfying moment when we eventually managed to get back into the Ryman Premier. It’s a shame the laziest squad of players ever assembled in the 2005/2006 season, to a certain extent undid all the good work the likes of Alan Davies, Byron Walton and Dennis Greene had done over the previous decade or so.

I certainly would. Although i wasn't around during the 3 relegation seasons if it was to happen again i'd stick around. I'd say 60% of the reason i go is the social side of it. Most saturdays the highlights of the day, no matter how good the game is, is the action in the nearby pubs later on!!

I'd stay watching, but I'd reserve the right to grumble a lot. As indeed I did last season, and for the first months of this one wink

The players may not be as good but as long as they still try there's still a buzz from watching, and it's even easier to grow camaraderie with a small crowd.

I only started watching back when Byron was manager (and still occasional player), but at least I saw us climbing up and past the likes of Egham (I think we got promoted both of the first two seasons I saw). It was actually pretty enjoyable then, even in the lower divisions: the football wasn't mostly as skillful as some is now (although Shaggy, Chippy and probably Dyke would still get in IMO) but there was a good general atmosphere, which seemed to last pretty much until Dennis left. Plus it was hard to feel down when Gordon was playing.

And although I've watched heavier defeats, and also in far worse weather, the worst I can recall feeling was losing 5-3 to Marlow having been 0-3 up. That really was sickening, especially when it became clear the bench were clueless for what to do next...

I reckon next seasons going to be a gooden. It would be more satisfying to go up by winning the league anyway. Plus, a friend and I are considering investing in karate kid drums to liven up the atmosphere smile

Original topic, I certainly would purely because this season i've developed a real passion for it. Not necessarily the team, although thats a given, its a nice place to be on a saturday afternoon.
