Team changes on Tuesday?

Recommended Posts

Whilst I am aware a play off place is not yet out of the question, it is rather dependant on us getting good points from our games in hand and a good few other teams slipping up, quite badly.

To that end. does anyone else feel our No 1 priority, at least until 6pm Saturday should be the Aldershot game?

If we get to the final, job done. How you perform at a big final , no-one knows.

We could then concentrate fully on the league.

Do we need to protect a coulple of our "key" players, to ensure no cards or injuries which could hamper our bid for Wembley and the financial rewards that would (eventually) bring?

I would personally rest Cronin, Opinel, McCarthy, Eribenne, Akinde and even possibly Long.

A team comprising

Mott

Ricketts McDonald Hawkins Bull

McPhee Bostwick Barratt Purcell

Moore Nade

isn't too shabby, has fresh legs and motivated players, and protects the main players who will probably start on Saturday.

I would probably agree with that team Gary but isn't MacDonald suspended? He probably isn't but I always forget the rules on this.

Yes we should rest key players, the Trophy is where it's at.

I'll even play. It would be hilairious. I'll get the day off work, drink for four hours before the game. We can then film it and sell the DVD's making an absolute mint from it.

Its a dilema, we still have a chance of making the play offs but we all want to win the cup. On the other hand the 2 can go hand in hand as wins tend to breed wins and a good match on Tuesday will give the lads a boost for Saturday.

I would keep the same squad but maybe drop one or two to the bench, not cronin as hes can make a differnace between the sticks

Because the crowd had drunk 4 or 5 pints?....Ask Hirsty! laugh

Harry couldn't agree more. Liam has made some cracking selections recently, geared for the games we are playing. Be great if the MyFC website had an option 'I wish to leave all team selection in the capable hands of Liam Daish for ever and ever, Amen' arrr

Looking at the league table, even 80 points is not going to guarantee a play off spot, with Exeter in 5th place having 62 points with 12 games left.

It's a safe bet they will win probably 6 or 7 of those, with the odd draw as well, making the last play off contender requiring - say 82/83 points.

Which, by my calculations means we would need 'roughly' 30 points from 14 games = 10 wins.

Not out of the question, but given the teams we are due to play, looks an unrealistic expectation.

It is for this reason I would leave our most needed players on the bench tommorrow, giving us our best possible chance on Saturday.

its a tough one, we have a tough 6 weeks ahead, we dont want to get to last 2 games needing to win to make the play offs with a tired team, Liam needs to get the most from the whole squad so I think there will be a few changes to protect some players from tiredness and he may rest a few that could be nearing a suspension...... whatever Liam decides, he will know who is in the best shape.. As long as Macca has enough left to walk those wembley steps and lift that trophy !!

Is there a risk of letting the Fleet's recent momentum dwindle away if Liam puts a weaker squad out Tuesday? I'm just recalling the great run of form going into the Setanta Shield game. After getting thrashed by Weymouth, the Fleet sputtered for a few games to get back on form.

Maybe it's just coincidence, but I hope the Fleet don't lose steam by looking past Tuesday.
