Wealdstone 5-a-side Tournament

Dear Grand High Aviator,

 

Firstly may I thank you for entering the inaugral Wealdstone FC Supporter's 5-a-side tournament. It is something that many people have wanted to do at Wealdstone, but something that until now has never actually been done.

 

First Things First

 

Let me just remind you that the event is taking place on SATURDAY 10th MAY 2003 at the Roger Banister Sports Stadium in Headstone Lane. Please see the attached map for directions. We are aiming to have the first games kicking off by 10.30am at the latest, so we ask teams to be at the venue and signed in by 10am.

 

The Venue

 

Obviously as Wealdstone FC currently ground-share with Edgware Town FC, we don't have the advantage of playing the tournament at our own ground (hopefully next year we can). The Roger Banister Sports Stadium is centred around an athletics track with several acres of playing fields surrounding it.

 

The Set Up

 

Although this is not 100% confirmed, we are likely to be running four groups of six teams. It is likely that the top two will qualify although we may decide to make it top four. There will be four pitches and each team will be assigned to one pitch for the qualifying stage.

 

As for the pitches, they are deceptively large, and we considered making it 6-a-side, but eventually decided to stick with just five. The goals are not the traditional 5-a-side goals (the ones which are about 3 ft high), but are in fact about the size of hockey goals. Each game will last for 10 minutes with no half time.

 

A Few Ground Rules

 

The Roger Banister Sports Stadium is in fact an area of church land. Therefore, it is actually prohibited to take alcohol on site. We have been granted permission to use the Wembley Rugby Club bar, which is across the road from the site. The manager at Banister, who will be present on the day, has assured us he will turn a blind eye to bringing alcohol onto the site, as long as people are discreet and do not leave bottles and glasses around the place.

 

We will be serving food on the day with a selection of hot and cold food readily available. There are also vending machines at the stadium. There will be car parking on site although it [is] advised you arrive early to get a decent place.

 

Payment

 

Each team you enter will cost £30 and team will only be confirmed once they have paid. Subsequently, we ask all teams to have paid before the actual day, as we will be running a tight schedule on the day.

Oi Zeal. After speaking to Griffiths and Brew, they were both up for it, as long as it didn't clash with the match later on (6.30pm). As there is no real foreseeable clash (I don't think...do you?), it should be 'all good,' as they say.
