Six men have been arrested by police following reports of a fight at an 18th birthday party being held in Essex.

Officers were called to the Witham Football Club - where the party was being held - and found a disturbance involving a number of people.

 

Two police officers were injured in the fracas and extra officers were drafted in to help restore order.

 

The men, aged between 17 and 44, who are all from Witham, were questioned on suspicion of violent disorder.

 

One of the injured police officers suffered a wound to the knee and the other suffered an eye injury, but neither was described as serious.

 

Police said it was likely members of the public were also injured, but had not received any official complaints.

I heard this story on BBC Essex this morning and had to have a chuckle.

 

Be intersting to see if any officials/players from Witham were involved.

 

Wonder if the chairman/manager was telling everybody to "get out".

I saw the news on teletext (or whatever they're calling it now) and had a chuckle. I wonder if it was anything to do with the club, or just people who had leased the clubhouse...?

Was nothing to do with the club fellas.

 

It was a private function, and no players of staff were involved.

A side note; I saw that Walton FC have been kicked out of the Essex and Suffolk border league after having three of their games abandoned due to violence. Before the newsreader announced the team, I was hoping it'd be Witham. Alas, it just turned out to be a park team. It's amazing how much hatred one can have for a club after only one visit, isn't it?
