(u18s) u16s v Maidstone

not sure what is going on with the u18s but there were only a hand full in the squad today, the bigger part made up of u16s.

Very tempted to air my views here but will save my annoyance for another day.

First half and Margate started well but it was Stones who got the more meaningful shots off and came close a couple of times. Some stout defending kept game going but little creativity from midfield kept our forwards quiet who slowly dropped to get the ball and the half came as an even 45 miutes.

The second half saw a more determined Stone side take the field and it was with-in 5 minutes that a scrambled corner gave Stones the lead. 5 minutes later and it was 0-2 from a cracking shot from the edge of the box, a fine dive from Gates keeper managed to get fingers to it but onto the post and in. A change up front and the side look more balenced as what they failed to do in the first half swung it. A nice through ball and chip gave Gate the spur, but only moments from the restart a 3 on 1 saw poor DH knock into the net and 1-3. However, the game that was always on an edge spilled over and a Stone player was show red. Margate rallied and from a free kick put a fine move together for 2-3. Time running out as Gate had the ball in the net twice more but did not count. Then with 6 to go a clear push and the ball was sent to the back of the net from the spot for 3-3.

A good game from the young side who showed great spirit. Cant help feel that had the side who beat Stones been on the pitch it would have been different. I do have a few picture of the game.

Well played all.

As in the away game, if the manager is that way of course the players will follow. Bit of ranting and finger pointing but it all quitened down after 5 minutes. Shame that Canterbury are now in second, Gate in third. The cancelled game v Whitstable away has been slotted in for next Sunday, again this is a game to keep Gate in third. But who will be playing?

Good Luck
