Godalming vs Slough

As for playing better against the top teams, I think they give the opposition more time on the ball, as they have a greater confidence in their own abilities. The lower teams are at you as soon as you get the ball, so that just leaves you with the lick it away option.

Ah, I think I've sussed our problem.

We think we're a good team and give the opposition plenty of time on the ball, then reality bites us on the a#se, we go a couple of goals down and realise we're one of the poorer teams. By this time we've become so confused we end up doing neither.

Sorted.

dear anonymous if thursday nights training session was of such high quality what reason do you give for such a low grade performance by most of the team, and at least i,m man enough to id myself on site when i have a comment to make, so it is you who should put up or shove off cos we don't need you!

Couldn't make the game on saturday so can't comment on that, but I bumped into Betts in the supermarket yesterday and asked him how it went. He was genuinely gutted and explained that a number of the players have been suffering from a sickness bug similar to the norovirus thing - I'll spare the player's blushes by not naming him, but apparently one of them was quite ill minutes before going on to the pitch. Such was his commitment to the team that he refused to sit the match out.

Not an excuse by any means, but might explain a few odd performances and occasions where players are out of position.

We had heard that Harper was ill and that's why he was missing. It could well explain a fairly lacklustre performance. Hopefully they will all be fighting fit for Paulton as we will need the points after Bracknell's result. We've got to try and rally them come Saturday.

I think I am being realistic in that I am sure we will be relegated. Looking at the fixtures I can't see where we are going to pick up the points from to save us, it is an irrelevance that we have still to play Newport. I am fully behind the club and team, but our inability to beat or even draw with those few clubs just above us will cost us. Apart from Newport the rest of our fixtures are against mid table teams or above. I don't want to provoke a rash of retaliatory replies, but those who can remember when we played Egham a few years ago on a very wet Tuesday night (we wom 3-2), that was a ground in poor condition and they are now in the Cherry Red league playing against the likes of Bedfont.

Didn't know that some of the players were feeling ill - only Dean Harper. In that case some of my criticism might have been a little harsh. It was still a poor overall performance though, Godalming were there for the taking and we were really finished off by that heavily deflected second goal.

Let's just hope everyone is feeling 100% for Saturday.
