Godalming vs Slough

First-half we were not at the races at all, against a team that was well-organised, but there for the taking in my opinion.

Second-half we were the better side, but never really looked threatening with the final ball or cross letting us down.

A pretty dull game really, but something we should have done better with.

I've said it before, and i'll say it again. I still think we need a targetman to bring others into play. Especially in away games...

its the pain and pleasure ! total pleasure last week looking good, now again back to the pain..to see Slough struggle..We did have most of the play in the second half but to many high balls did not help, windy and very un even surface did not make it for a good game, both goalkeeper had very little to deal with, godalmings second a wicked deflection...giving out keeper no chance to save it..a poor week end...this week end...

hope its pleasure next saturday !

keep our faith... until to end..

Keeping faith in something that isn't working lacks logic. High balls to a short attack, in strong wind, was never going to work. The players can obviously produce the results on a good day, and I'm beginning to think that it's out tactics rather than the players.

Overall I've seen more organised headless chickens.

It's exactly what I feared would happen, yet another crap performance after a good victory - and it puts us right back in the position we were before the Fleet game.

The tactics are crap. Betts and some of his players need to have a long hard think IMHO.

If it's any consolation, Bracknell now have three tough-looking games coming up against Farnborough, Paulton and Uxbridge, though they are all at home.

I thought it was a very positive game with us stinging together 2 and even 3 passes on a couple of occasions, also that we made attacking plays by putting in high balls but were unfortuate that Terry was a foot shorter than the defender.

Were played very well only conceding two goals and not scoring any ourselves, along with a keen but totaly unproductive performance by Robinson.

We made some good attacks on goal and got some shots within 10 feet on some occasions although they had little power in them as we did not want to hurt anyone if they had got in the way.

Overall it was a performance that was up to the same standards as those against AFC Hayes and Winchester.

We nearly got the 3 points however Godalming just went and scored 2 goals without gifting us any.

It is games like these that just make you want to keep coming back and watching Slough - I just cant understand why our attendances keep going down.

(is that positive enough Warren?)

What is it about us and the first half? Farnborough apart, a lot of our recent games have been poor in the first half. Even against Bracknell we started the second half brightly. Uxbridge and Fleet games both saw second half good performances.

Tactics and Commitment seem to be our un-doing.

Tactics - manager is fully committed and convinced that 3-5-2 is the best formation to get results, changes to 4-4-2 after the game against Fleet, changes to 3-5-2 when we are a goal down. Indicision is final!

Commitment - we can raise our game against Farnborough, Uxbridge and Fleet but cannot do it against lesser opposition.

when will it become apparant that we cannot play the long high ball game never have done never will do. especially today with the wind being so wicked , we lacked width ,composure at the back, no overlapping , no pushing forward into the box, waiting for the ball to come to us instead of going and getting it allowed godalming to much space, and at times were to easily hustled off the ball,oh and before i forget some players were more into getting a free kick when it would have been easier to push on to goal, and i have it on good authority, from a close source the training sessions are not what they are supposed to be, make from that what you will!

Its intresting when players come on here and make comments like the first anon, as they say wait till May however if the club drops a level they will be the first to jump ship.

So say's yet another ANON.

Anyway. Back to the match.

The problem we had yesterday was that we got continously out muscled, fairly, unfairly, and in some cases, extremely unfairly, on a pitch that had about an 8 to 10 foot slope in very blustery conditions.

Also, why do the players revert back to long high balls when the chips are down. The strikers don't stand a chance with those balls. Yesterday the defenders were a good foot taller. This is something that happens at all levels of the game.

After the game, a Godalming supporter told me that he though we had some really good wing play, but nothing in the middle, as it seemed our strikers were putting most of the crosses in.

As for playing better against the top teams, I think they give the opposition more time on the ball, as they have a greater confidence in their own abilities. The lower teams are at you as soon as you get the ball, so that just leaves you with the lick it away option.

We need to get that fighting spirit back, and the type of football we know we can play.

Come on Rebels. Believe in yourselves.
