IMHO Akinde and Sascha were good, but Long looks like a superb player everytime I see him. My MOM

I dont recall one shot on target all game from Burton - one header at the back post back across goal hacked clear in extra time and a scorching shot after they went 1-0 down which flew over the bar. Apart from that perhaps 2 or three other efforts well off target.

The goal came from a good break down the left by Purcell (I think) who squared to Stacy on top of 18 yardbox. He actually rather scuffed the shot, but it seemed to fool the keeper who made a hash of it and allowed it to trickle almost apologetically past him and across the line. Stacy actually had 2 good chances in the 90 minutes as well and would normally be the person I'd like to seewith those chances - on the first the keeper stood up well and blocked his initial effort & Stacy hammered the 2nd opportunity over the bar and in the second half, when through one on one, he could only drag his shot wide.

Numerous other efforts flying high or wide as well but it definitely would have been a travesty if Burton got anything other than a cup exit tonight.

Stacey and Akinde are quite admired by Exeter and it would be good if we could sign them! Trouble is getting players to move down to the West Country.

I see Sacha is the cult hero and he was good, sublime flick over his head with his heel, always good to see.

Too right Mikefleet, I thought it was going to be one of those nights where we batter a team only for them to score on the break.

As to the number of good chances, I can think of 6 that should have gone in in normal time;

About 10 minutes in - Stacy all alone on the left of the box, chose to cut inside rather than shoot 1st time and shot was blocked

First Half - Bostwick effort that looked like it was pushed over, but as a goal kick was given, it must have hit the top of the bar

Early second half - Another Stacy chance similar to the one above

Mid 2nd Half - Stacy one on one - shot just wide

Late 2nd Half - McPhee from 8 yards - best chance of the night, smashed over

2 minutes into injury time - Luke Moore volley that he should have got on target - smashed over the bar

Thankfully, the linesman missed what looked like a blatant offside and their keeper let the ball roll over his body for Stacy to score.

Great game, great performance. Our name is on that Trophy

I was at the game last night, only my second visit to Stonebridge Road this season, but now that I own a share in the club, trying to come along a bit more. I thought the Fleet deserved the win, we created the better chances and should have won the game in normal time. Burton did not really threaten the well marshalled defence, Opinel and McCarthy were excellent. Felt the midfield struggled and I think that is the one area which needs work. Akinde is big and strong and was good. The goal was a long time coming but it eventually came, and maybe Long deserved the accolade. It will be a tough two games against Aldershot, but we have to believe that we are in with a fighting chance of making the final and I might get two trips to Wembely at the end of the season!!!! Now that is me beginning to dream.

My thoughts, for what they are.

Defence superb, Sacha turned in an extraordinary performance. I'm not sure I have ever seen a more passionate and committed Fleet player - his rapport with the fans is well deserved.

Midfield barrier of Barratt and Bostwick seemed a bit excessive against such an unambitious Burton team, who for much of the game either played 5-5-0 or 4-5-1. When we needed the extra bit of creativity from the centre - we were founbd a bit lacking. Luckily, both McPhee and Long created a hatfull of chances which weren't taken.

Our finishing was poor last night. Whether it was nerves, bobbly pitch, I don't know, but I do know we will not get as many goalscoring chances against Aldersh*t. If we do not capitalise on those we do get, we will lose. Simple as.

Akinde looked back to his best again, running the defence ragged with his runs across the edge of the box. His awareness of those around should make life easy for his strike partner.

Sadly Rafa looked like he wouldn't score in a month of Sunday's.

He runs a lot - but so does Paula Radcliffe.

I cannot recall a shot on target, and can think of only 1 header he won in the box - which missed. Not good enough for a player of which more is expected.

There are players in better form than him who deserve a chance.

Against the Sh*ts, I would hope that Ricketts is fit again, and Chukkie or Luke partners Akinde.

Cheers,

We can only try, Hirsty. But my post will be as boring as f*ck to the moonies in distant lands, who care not a jot for the way the team plays, but for the street cred they can get for being "owners of a pro association soccer club" in the United Kingdom of England.
