BURTON REPLAY & NORTHWICH COMMENTARIES

Recommended Posts

I'll be there as usual tomorrow night. Don't forget to send PMs to me on this forum and include your name in your message, and I will try to work in a name check for you.

I now have confirmation about Northwich on Saturday and I will be back on FULL global duty for that game.

Pip pip! Lord Chas

PS BBC Radio Kent Sports editor Matt Davison and Mike Green will also be alongside me in the commentary box so we can answer any questions you may want to put to us at http://www.nonleague.co.uk/forums/ubbthreads.php/ubb/postlist/Board/18

Dear Old Harry - we don't do requests, otherwise I would have been told to bugger off years ago.

By the way how did Chelski get on yesterday? COYS!!!!

For the eagle eyed amongst you who know that I have a leaning towards the real team in north London(not Woolwich Wanderers)you may have seen me and daughter Caroline sneaking out of White Hart Lane(I only go when the Fleet aren't playing) 13 seconds before the end of time added on at the end of the Slavia Prague game on Thursday. ITV broadcast the evidence. Sat next to Steven Mangam of Green Wing,a Spurs season ticket holder. Nice bloke. On to the UEFA Cup Final!

I fancy a Wembley double this season with the underdogs winning again against the odds!

Boooo.....

I had a chance to go to Wembley but sold my ticket for £100.

Poor old Spurs, you have to give them something to cling on to every now and then.

I have my ticket for the 3 Point Lane on the 19th of Next month though. I don't really support Chelsea anymore, I can't see the point in supporting two teams. I'm going to keep my dad company, a Chelsea supporter of 50 years, and as I'm a ground hopper I have never been to Spurs. Just need the Lane, The Den and the Cottage and then I'll have been to every London Club in the Football League, I think. I don't count Watford and Luton as being in London.

I received a reply today from the BBC to my enquiry regarding listening abroad:

"Dear David,

Many thanks for your message.

The reason we cannot put our excellent local radio football commentaries on BBC sites is that the copyright for them is owned by the sports rights holder, the Football League. they effectively "license" us to do radio commentaries, for which we pay annual fees direct to the clubs.

The clubs themselves own the rights to put their audio commentaries of their matches on the internet, not the BBC. They have all chosen to sign a deal with a company that run their Web sites.

When the BBC and a football club agree a commentary deal, reflected in this is the provision for a club to request to use this commentary on their Web site. The BBC is under no obligation to provide this, but usually does so at no cost to us. Nor does the BBC make any money from this - it is part of a contract with a football club.

The Football League's Web site partner has recently developed technology to allow for "pay per view" elements of club websites - this is increasingly the case with Web sites worldwide. In difficult financial times for football clubs they must find additional revenue streams to finance the day-to-day running of the club, so they have decided to put not only internet commentaries for all their action, but video highlights, a searchable video archive and other video and audio news, interviews and features in a PPV part of their site.

We hope this answers your query.

Best wishes,

BBC iPlayer Team"

Now all I've got to do is figure out what it means crazy

I sometimes struggles with proper english,so bureaucratic stuff like the beeb text is over my head.

What website?

Matchlive?

I listen to Wolves on Matchlive.

First of all..there is no Ebbsfleet commentry on there, second of all there is no FAT coverage overall.FA Cup is covered though.Carling Cup as well.

Anyone knows how Matchlive works?

I can listen to the FA Cup and Carling Cup on there, but not the FAT.Why is that..why opt to block specifically the FAT.There is no coverage of it on Matchlive.

Why has Burton for example commentary on Matchlive(for normal league games),while Ebbsfleet doesn´t have that?

Why was I able to listen to the Weymouth match in the FAT from Sweden?

The key statement in the BBC reply seems to be that the clubs own the INTERNET broadcast rights. I think the reference to clubs having paid web site providers to do this probably refers to the League teams (although I specified non-league in my question).

So really, somebody from the club needs to let us know. (Unless Lord Chas has some good BBC contacts who can help?)
