A young Margate side hit by a few injuries earned a creditable draw against an older, more experienced looking Erith & Belverdere at Hartsdown. Indeed if it wasn't for a missed penalty could have pinched the game but a draw seemed a fair result for both sides.

E&B showed their intentions in the first minute when Lee Sugden was put through but his shot went over the bar. However in the 8th minute Margate took the lead when a run by Joe Taylor took him into the area and he pulled the ball across to Chris Lewis who hit the ball gleefully into the net. E&B then nearly equalised in the 18th minute when the impressive, hard working, Ashley Dunkley hit a shot which just shave the outside of the right post.

Saul Anderton then seemed to get a hip injury and though he tried to play on for a few minutes it was obvious he was in some discomfort so Steve Moore, deputising for Mark Weatherley who was on holiday, had to rearrange with Shannon McNamee taking over in middle of defence and Neil Hoggart coming into midfield. In the 39th minute Sugden put over a cross come shot which shaved top of the bar. Four minutes later Paul Axon puta delightful pass through to Chris Lewis but just as he was about to shoot a last ditch tackle by a defender put it out for a corner. Elliott Payner swung in the corner and Martin Young rose to collect, dropped it but saved again at Taylors feet.

E&B then attacked early in the second half and a cross by Sugden was met by Dunkley but his stretched right foot could only push the ball wide. Then in the 62nd minute E&B did get the ball in the net from Caine Anderson when he brought down the ball from a corner then back heeled it into the net. However he brought the ball down with his hand which was spotted by the ref. Axon then put Lewis through again but Young came out bravely to save at his feet. A minute later, Lewis tried a cheeky lob from 25 yards which went just over the bar.

Then in the 72nd minute after a goalmouth scramble, Taylor tried to push it past the keeper but Young once again well saved. Darryn Vanhinsberg then put over a cross from the left which Axon brought down well but his shot went just over the bar. A minute later Hoggart pushed the ball to Olti Kecki who threaded it through to Taylor, who placed the ball past the on-coming keeper only to see it cleared off the line by Ted Catchpole.

E&B then equalised when a long ball in 81st minute found Dunkley, who hit a shot which Matt Lamprell threw himself at to make a great save, but only see the ball fall to the on-coming Stephen Weatherley who hit the ball gratefully into the net. Two minutes later Margate could have retaken the lead when Vanhinsberg running into the left hand side of the area was brought down. Top scorer in the League, Taylor stepped up and though hitting it low to the keepers left, Young made a great save at foot of the post.

Taylor then tried to make up for this miss in the 85th minute, twisting and turning in the area to get his shot in but it went straight at the keeper. Lewis then had a chance to win the game when another Axon through ball put him in on goal but Young once again saved his side by rushing out to collect at Lewis's feet.

Team: Matt Lamprell, Dan Stokes, Elliott Payne, Saul Anderton (Neil Hoggart 33rd minute), Ryan Harker, Paul Axon, Olti Kecki, Shannon McNamee, Joe Taylor, Chris Lewis, Darryn Vanhinsberg. Subs not used Robbie Summers, Sam Crompton.

Att: Not sure of official but looked to be about 30 there.
